Fourteen different wrasses and counting. There's at least two more on my want list. My top wrasse would have to be my flame though. Purchased as a female four years ago is now a handsome super male.

I have a Timor and a Black Leopard in my 34 SPS cube right now. They are waiting to go into my 80 as soon as it's ready for fish. I'm planning on more once the move happens, the first new being a yellow coris and a few more that I'm currently undecided on. Any recommendations for any that will get along with my current wrasse's would be great!

My current contingent though the captive bred cleaner is too fast and small for photos

That’s some nice wrassage! What are the names of those guys? I currently have a Melanurus, yellow coris, and Naoko. Thinking about getting a Diamond tail flasher. I am also interested in a cleaner wrasse, but my tank is not established. No pods. I’ve heard different things about cleaner wrasses. Will they survive in a tank with regular food? Right now I freeze freeze dried plankton with an auto feeder, and supplement that daily with frozen mysis.

i cant think

Melanarus obviously
Macropharyngodon bipartitus - Female blue star leopard wrasse
Halichoeres Iridis - Radiant wrasse
Coris Gaimard - Red Coris/yellowtail coris wrasse (not reef safe)

As for the cleaner I only got it because it was captive bred and raised on regular aquarium foods. Otherwise they don't work unless you have a big tank with tons of fish as I understand it. I feed it mysis, calanus, and hatchery pellets.

…One?!
Guess that’s me out then haha.

In all seriousness, I have 6 in my 4’ and 4 in my 3’ tank. In order from biggest to smallest at the minute here’s what I have;
Halichoeres iridis
Halichoeres chloropterus
Cirrhilabrus lubbocki (Cebu)
Cirrhilabrus lubbocki (Indo)
Paracheilinus spp (3-way Hybrid)
Cirrhilabrus naokoae
Macropharyngodon bipartitus
Pseudocheilinops ataenia 2x
Pseudocheilinops ataenia

The reason I didn’t put all three Pseudocheilinops and separated one is because in actual fact there is one that is significantly smaller and always has been much smaller than the other two.
Here’s 4 of them;

Soon I plan on grabbing an extra two for my 3’ tank and starting another in the 3’ for my 4’. Hopefully a Choats and Wetmorella tanakai pair make it into the family eventually (Planning on hunting a Choati down in a few months time).

I've been contemplating having a QOTD today or not. I'm sitting here in my Reef Therapy hat and Reef Builders shirt (thinking about Jake) typing and deleting and retyping again. It's proving to be very hard to try and "get back to reefing" considering the recent loss of our friend Jake Adams but this week I think he would be happy with the topic we have planned from the beginning of the year and would want us to continue to learn and share. Jake really knew fish and he knew his wrasses so let's talk about them today!

Do you have at least one wrasse in your reef tank and if so which one?

Follow up: Are you happy with your decision to include wrasse fish into your aquarium?

I had a Carpenter's Flasher in the past. This time I decided I'd rather have a Ruby Red Dragonette in my 62 long tank.

I have a small Six-line and LFS is holding a Blue-throated Fairy until I get my quarantine tank emptied and reset.

Are wrasses notorious for jumping out of the tank? Because that’s one thing that held me back from getting them…I had a 6-line before for over a year. No issues. But then mysteriously disappeared. I have a 125 gallon with ricks, crabs and shrimp. If it died in the rocks they would’ve made quick work of the body.
