Let’s take a realistic scenario and see where that leads us.

I have a reef tank where I want to reduce the dissolved organics in the water.

What would you have me do to reduce the dissolved organic matter (or N or P) that will not reduce bioavailable trace elements such as iron or copper?
Sorry - missed this. I do not have a good answer - maybe ozone for the yellowing substances, Precipitation with CaCO3 meal another method but will probably bond some of the traces too. Use of a refugium and lesser fish in the start until corals has a possible chance to take up all supplied N and P.

But I think its not a problem nowadays - use of ICP-MS and complementary dosing will fix any losses

Sincerely Lasse
