It's a snow day.. I'm off from work !

Figured i'd start on my plumbing, which is always fun ;)

Plumbing for this system will consist of sch80 Georg Fischer piping, fittings and valves. The valves shown are a pair of 1/2" 514 series manual diaphragms. These will play a part in regulating the flow to my PAX-Bellum reactor and GHL Measurement Cell.

Other equipment - Like a GHL Flow Sensor(Not shown) will be added to the 3/4" union located at the top of the 3/4" to 1/2" reducer tee fitting.

Additional notes - Elos Midi overflow drain is 1" 1/4, 3/4" return. There are no bulkheads like your typical aquarium. Male hose barb adapters(Included o-ring) screw right into a pvc block at the bottom of the tank.

Follow along as i build a complete GHL controlled system for my ELOS Midi Diamond 36

Following. Love your build thread.

I googled the Midi earlier this year and was a bit confused. One ELOS site listed the 70 as the smallest diamond while another seemed to imply the Midi was discontinued. Where did you get yours? I gather the Midi is alive and well and uses the same glass that ELOS is famous for?

Great build so far! Following :)

Thanks !!

Those are some very very fancy values , where did you get them from ?

Ha! Indeed and they come at a cost..

I acquired these valves from a liquidation company on Ebay a few months back, but you can find them at places like Grainger and US Plastic.

MrMichael,

Why, yes! But the smallest Diamond Line aquarium is the 20g "mini", followed by the 36g Midi.
Elos America link: http://www.elosamerica.com/shop/33/aquariums/diamond-line.html

Aquarium Specialty is the lovely place from where i had purchased my Diamond Midi. They currently have an inventory of a few Diamond and Essential line aquariums, which there is some promising news for ELOS America this year :)

I believe they are Georg Fischer diaphragm valves. I looked into them but went with the more traditional design from Spears. I'm definitely interested in how they work out as I like the design.

I forgot to mention that my Midi has Diamond Vision glass only on the front while Crystal Blue Line as the other three sides. The tank also has a double glass bottom along the seams, which is similar to Reef Savvy's Armored Seams.

Thank you I am going to look more into the valves ;)

The downloads section of the link I shared is a good place for info

I think it'll be interesting to see how the flow travels throughout my plumbing and how my DC pump will adapt to the changes of flow being regulated by these high flow valves.

Question... I just picked up an Elos Midi as well and it seems as though the tank rests only on the two sides of the Elos stand? Makes me a bit nervous that it may not have enough support...

Creating a strong bulwark: Did you consider floor support for your reef tank?
