Haha poop missiles! That's funny as. I get that to! I think it's this guy: IMG_2584.JPG
Yea I think I forgot to mention that in my TJ. I basically started the cycle by adding a small peice of LR from the mini, which actually that feather duster came in on.
I also caught some amohipods and mysis from the mini and put them in to, give them a bit of a head start. So far the ampipods have gone crazy but haven't seen the mysis. There's heaps of copepods starting to populate the glass so they must have come from the rock I put in. About 2 weeks into the cycle I started putting in a couple turbo snails from the mini a day. There's about 15 in there now and have done their job beautifully, all the diatoms are basically gone. It's probably been a good thing I haven't started stocking yet as there's a nice population of critters building populations.

That Algae barns pods pack sounds good and can only be beneficial.

I think you'll be fine going skimmerless with the Arid. From the few journals I've read with people using them they have no worries of keeping nutrients low! :)

Beautiful image!

I think i'll place an order for a delivery from Algae Barn for next week. Diatoms are starting to make an appearance and the tank has a hint of smell today... Ammonia, Nitrite, Phosphate undetectable by Salifert test. I need to purchase a Nitrate kit soon!

Nice, watching my amphipod infested tank at the moment i seriously think a tank filled with just micro fauna could be really cool haha
I wonder how much those parameters will change given the freshness of the rock.

On another note, until last week where i watched a video and saw a moray rip another eel in half i had no idea of their pharyngeal jaws.. amazing!
Your basically gonna have two xenomorphs in your tank :p

I find it fascinating to watch the activity of crustaceans. The plan for my system is to create a natural ecosystem with an array of thriving crustaceans for nutrient recycling. They are starting to structure a extracellular polymeric substances on the substrate in high flow areas :)

Was it a Youtube video of the eels? And Lol Reminds me of the aliens from the Aliens movie that have a second jaw.

I think it's one of the best parts of the hobby!
It could have been, I think I saw it on a local marine Facebook group. I'll try find it.
Haha yea exactly!

I didn't know you were allowed to post pictures of such a provocative nature on this forum mate. A warning might be necessary for the young ones next time.
Sexy as hell!
:D:p

Ha! It truly is even though i haven't cleaned the glass since day 1, however. My glass cleaner should be arriving later today.

I think i did alright with my initial coral purchase. I'm trying to inhabit everything from Indo-Pacific/Australia.

That sounds like a lovely selection to start with! Keen keen to see them in the tank.

Indeed and a good deal!

However, my CUC is still not here from Algae Barn... I received a call regarding a backorder on the Trochus Snails, which won't ship until late next week, but I have them shipping me a bag of Cheato for this week.

I ended up ordering a dozen Red Banded Trochus snails from a different business and they should arrive tomorrow. The algae in my tank isn't growing but my current snails just can't consume it efficiently.

Very nice.... I have been wanting one so bad. Are you running any sort of lid? Wasn't sure how notorious they are for "jumping"!?!

The eel is quite interesting, feeding it chunks of octopus tentacles and wild shrimp. It doesn't bother my inverts and 1" Picasso Ocellaris.

I fabricated a temporary one with black eggcrate and netting, however. I'm starting to believe that it is not necessary for a lid. Most eels are dwellers(especially this golden dwarf moray eel) and they spend most of their time in caves, crevasses and porous structures. I wouldn't worry about it jumping if you have enough hiding places for it. Most people that have these eels don't consider that.

That's good news! I have a lid, but was just curious. Did you purchase it locally or online? Doesn't seem to be too many out there.

Growth in my PAX-Bellum ARID has started to slow down. I figure my carnivorous diet for my eel and clown is high in protein nitrogen and low in phosphorus, which in turn gives me zero phosphates(Salifert) but nitrates remain at my desired 5ppm by dosing NO3/Molybdenum. I'm starting to dose phosphorus(ELOS Fosfato supplement) or have to consider adding few herbivores and feed veggie rich foods to achieve at least .02ppm

But one thing is for sure. I haven't needed to clean the glass in over two months and algae in my tank is neither here nor there.

I have a second doser 2 arriving from GHL to dose PO4 and Easy Reefs Phyto Gel.

It's a snow day.. I'm off from work !

Figured i'd start on my plumbing, which is always fun ;)

Plumbing for this system will consist of sch80 Georg Fischer piping, fittings and valves. The valves shown are a pair of 1/2" 514 series manual diaphragms. These will play a part in regulating the flow to my PAX-Bellum reactor and GHL Measurement Cell.

Other equipment - Like a GHL Flow Sensor(Not shown) will be added to the 3/4" union located at the top of the 3/4" to 1/2" reducer tee fitting.

BKM_9728.JPG

Additional notes - Elos Midi overflow drain is 1" 1/4, 3/4" return. There are no bulkheads like your typical aquarium. Male hose barb adapters(Included o-ring) screw right into a pvc block at the bottom of the tank.

Where did you source the Georg Fischer unions and fittings? I can only find valves in the US.

Hi ! Grainger the industrial supply company is where i acquired all of my Georg Fischer pipes and fittings. I placed an order via their site and did a will-call at a local branch.
