Mosquito Larva Snack?

While I agree that SERWOBOW MAKES A GOOD POINT, THE BEST SUGGESTION I CAN GIVE:
They should not survive long term in seawater. Simply add some and both observe if the goby is responsive to eating it, and if they are still free swimming after 24 hrs. If they are, see if they are still free swimming another 24 hrs but I think we know the answer- they should not be. The type of feed they are, unlike blackworms, they should not foul the water.

I googled mosquito larvae and salt water and here is the first thing that came up:
"IT is well known that the larvae of certain mosquitoes can thrive both in fresh water and in water of a high degree of salinity, while the larvae of other mosquitoes are quickly killed by salt water; and that such differences may exist even between local races of the same species (Evans, 1931).
So, maybe fine, maybe not.

I am unsure about mosquito larva but if you do want to source some of your own fish food then I do have a suggestion, fish roe. I am an avid angler and will save the roe of fish when I clean them from time to time. I freeze the roe sacks whole and just cut off a piece to feed. As it thaws it releases hundreds of little bite size eggs that everything in my reef enjoys.

I truly believe live food is important. If there is a local source for black worms at a LFS then try those, they are the best IME. I also like buying live clams from the grocery store to feed my fish. The things about the fish roe is that its so fresh I believe it is superior to other frozen food, not to mention eggs in general are represented to have a high nutritional content.

About mosquito larva, I think its a really interesting idea and I will throw some in my tan next time I find a few. Thanks for the idea.

Unfortunately the place I live don’t have those kind of things and petco is our only local pet store :( I ended up cleaning a bunch of the mosquitoe larve and placing them in the tank and everyone ate it except the pipefish and the black clown goby. But I will continue to try it until it works. All the extras I feed to my betta put in my betta pond.

I used to feed frozen mosquito larvae to my fish, they loved it. San Francisco Bay Brand used to sell it, they discontinued it, I guess it was considered a specialty food, only for freshwater hobbyists, but all of my SW fish loved, as well as daphnia. Put a white bucket with water out on your covered porch as harvest them, then freeze them, no blood suckers in the house
