Hi All! I went through all seven pages and would like a status update from those of you with the flex already mounted. I am upgrading to a 48x24x21 and would like to know if one 102 is enough coverage and par for a mixed reef with little shadows?

I currently run 3 x 12” Ai blades over my 24g and absolutely love the spread. I am considering 2 or 3 XR30 G6s, Meridian 45, and or 3xReefi 2.1’s but needing several units to get good spread is like $3k in lights.

ATI says:
  • Recommended Illumination Area: 48 in. x 24 in.
I have a 180g mixed reef 72x24x24 and running their 153 Flex unit hanging 10" above the water. There is a slight shadowing on both ends since the light isn't 72" long but it's actually perfect for a mixed reef. You'll need areas for more light sensative corals so the ends will be the place for those corals. Buying this fixture you'll be saving 1/2 the cost plus saving so much electricty...and zero maintenance.

Yeah that’s a good point a flex 153 is 220 watts basically the same as a single Xr30 but 3-4 x the coverage.
Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you guys are having a great holiday!! 😊
I just opened up to 153s for my 205 gallon setup. I'm actually pretty disappointed with these lights! Color and par is great but the app is absolutely freaking horrible. I cannot get them to work on my Wi-Fi network I have to connect to them individually. Also the time keeps drifting and I have to check it everyday. Also I add them to my Wi-Fi network and they disappear and I can't log into them on my browser or the app and they don't show up in my router's device list I have to keep resetting them. The most annoying lights I have ever delt with!!!! Another thing is I received one of the lights and on one of the quadrants all of the 21 blue LEDs do not work still waiting on a response from Germany on this. And these are brand new out of the box they've been sitting for 3 months because work has been busy and I couldn't set up the tank yet. Extremely frustrating these lights are very expensive and they could have least created a better app for it. The reason why I went with these is because of their good supposed reputation coming from radion's which I've never had an issue with. But I went with these because the power draw is way less than me using six Radion's. As you can see in one of the pictures a bunch of the LEDs are not working. Waiting for a response from them to tell me if the unit is broken or it's a software issue I've tried all the settings and those will not come on. Frustrating to say the least that I've had so many problems off the bat with these things and if it was in the return period I would have returned them and gotten six radions. Hopefully they won't make it right and help me with this.

Thanks I hope so too. So far I got the app and wifi working was because it didn't like my secondary router. So one down. Just have to wait on support for the dead leds

How are you guys liking the light and app? Any more updates on these?

I’ve narrowed down my choice for my 70” tank to the Straton flex 153 or Reef breeder meridian 63. I do like the sleek look of the ATI more but have seen more feedback on the reef breeder.

The ATI is a good light but it is very white heavy, as you would expect from a European light. I supplement with a blue light strip. The Meridian would have been my next choice. My tank didnt skip a beat when I switched from ATI 6 bulb to the Flex.

I won’t have the option to add another strip as I’m planning on hanging it over a peninsula, so that could be an issue if I start missing the blues.

Thanks for the feedback

I love my light. The is pretty no-frills but works for my purposes of setting and forgetting.

Really? I feel like my Flexes are quite blue in hue, especially compared to my previous Gen 2 CoralCares. The built-in spectrum of Toms Korallen or LPS+ visiually looks 18-20k and still punches great par...

I managed to get a Flex 102 on the second-hand market in my country (Spain).

A shop in my city told me that they're no longer going to manufacture Straton G2s, including the Flex G2, and that they're all going to be replaced by the Straton X. Does anyone know anything about this?

I suppose the Flex lamps aren't worth it economically; you can light a large tank for much less than using options like Radion or having to buy three Straton X modules.

Oof. That makes me sad that they might discontinue Straton flex. IME the flex has a much better lighting spread/evenness than the Pros. I haven’t had a chance to compare to X though I can’t imagine a smaller footprint would lead to better spread/even lighting.

I had an idea this was happening because the flex is listed as on a runout sale on a site in Europe. So yes I think you are correct.

I wouldn’t mind so much, but the X is out of stock too!

If the Flex and other Straton lines will be discontinued that will simplify the decision making process I suppose: Straton X or go with some other manufacturer. I wish the Straton X was more widely available. I have been itching to replace my current lighting setup! The Stratton X looks nice but we need more reviews from users.

Yeah just for my application the x is about 50% more expensive than the flex. Still a great light. If it was available as you say! I’m sure it will be soon.
I’ve contacted ATI directly to see if I’ll ever get my flex.
