so i recently bought a firefish and it has been weird for a couple days and all my params are where they should be and all corals and fish are doing awesome. and i saw the firefish dead under a cave and went i went to grab him he gave one last twitch into a little cave under my rock. and of course its the rock with my bta i cant even feel him back their , what do i do? i cant take apart my tank. im hating this hobby it seems like whenever my reef is going great something ***** up. so is their anyway to prevent the ammonia given off my the fish that wll make my tank crash?

this happened to me many times. stay on top of your tests to make sure nothing goes nuts and try a 20% change a week. as for the fish dying it could have been stress that cause it. this hobby does have its ups and downs try not to stress yourself out. what size is the tank?

Run some carbon it will help when ever he does kick the bucket.

Also do you have a good clean up crew?

How big is your tank and how long has it been up and running? Do you have a deep sand bed also?

I had a 6" leopard wrasse die in my sand bed and my parameters where fine but my tank had been up for a few years with a deep sand bed and tons of worms.

29 gallon biocube , 2 inch-3inch sandbed. about 10 snails and 6 hermit crabs

+1 on a clean up crew. Crabs will devour a dead fish.

Very true with a deep sand bed and bristle worms coppepods or any crabs they effects should not be major.

You should be fine with the CUC, especially for a firefish as they are pretty small to begin with...

I second the carbon suggestion just to be on the safe side...

yeah the hermits should do a good cleaning just make sure to do a water change as soon as your sure hes dead lol. and keep on top of you test making sure nothing spikes

depends... do you know if you have brittle worms or a good population of coppepods? how many hermets? do you have any gobys?

good news my peppermint shrimp disappeared for a little bit and came out holding the firefish!! my peppermint is the meanest thing ever he attcks me but i came up to the tank and he comes out of the rock and drops it on the sandbed and goes back in his cave. excuse my grammar my excitement and earlier dispair is taking its toll haha.

haha yeah i had one that used to climb right onto my hand and actually clean the skin on my finger tips and palm...its too bad i haven't scene him for over to weeks :(
