So I have decided to do a few things today.

Weld last piece of exhaust pipe section on the red car and then it is done. Well, excluding eating until my fully programmable ecu gets here for it.

That leaves a lot of time today for the tanks.

so here is my list.

Replace leds on frag tank with my old t5s. Just not happy with the leds. Gave it a month and growth isn’t the same and coloration isn’t as good on the corals. Softies are fine, but everything else just doesn’t look the same.

I know they are sb reef, so not the greatest. Even with changing some leds out to make the spectrum better, they just don’t do it for me.

I will be setting up a shroom tank as well. This will share the same sump as the frag tank and I may use the sb reef on it. The few shroom in the frag tank now seem to be doing great under leds. But who knows, I have t5s for it also lol.

Redo the macro grow out tank to have tons of rock in the sump. There are so many pods and micro fauna growing in the display part, it seems
I should do it to seed the rock. Also, being as the tank is dosed ammonia, it will allow for the rock to be used to create nitrate for the plants. Yes the plants consume ammonia just fine, but it seems like they appreciate a little nitrate along with it. Hopefully that will mean I can just dose a little more ammonia and stop dosing nitrate.

frag my zoas and palys. Going to split up some colonies in the frag tank. Anything with more than 10 heads will get split to 3-4 per tile. I don’t do 1 head crap. Takes forever for them to pop new heads.
This sounds like a great day...

Steve, I have 4 or 5 types of macro. I have a 20L that I want to set up to grow it out in. I do also want to be able to drop baby Bangaii Cardinalfish in here when they are released by the dad for grow out.
First question. Do I need substrate for macros. I have 2 types of caulerpa (feathery blade and thick smooth blade) red ogo, dragons breath, some red grape, and 1 other red type don't know the name.
Second question. Lighting. What do you recommend. I. Thinking about placing it in direct sunlight but thats only afternoon and evening.
Third question. Mostly fishless set up, minimum bio load. I want maximum growth but still needs to be safe for my baby fish. What additives do you recommend?

Man that’s a lot an once lol.

substrate yes. Low maintenance would be some crushed gravel with a reverse under gravel filter and a hob filter. This would keep the substrate clean. Basically pushing water up through the gravel gently and the hob would pull anything floating around out.

Or you could do some special grade sand and just be sure to not overfeed or get some sand sifters.

lighting I easy for a tank like that. I would recommend a twinstar light that fits the tank. They grow macro like nothing else.

Dosing would be ammonia and cheatogrow. You can dose ammonia in safe quantities without hurting fish. It would just need to be dosed in a sump or hob filter, so it has a chance to disperse and not drip right onto a curious fish.

Ammonia can be skipped and you can do nitrate with cheatogrow, but then you have to add a little phosphate. Just a little.

GHA will be the big issue. You need flow, but not too much flow. That is where the rugf comes into play. It pushes water upwards and helps keep water flow across the blades of macro.

Again, not needed, but helpful.

The trick is finding where you nutrients need to be to grow macro, but not gha.

Also, I would suggest a nano pack of KP or Gulf live rock to start the tank. The diversity will help a ton. Especially to prevent unwanted algae.

Thank you kind sir. I'll hit you up in pm with some ideas I have or my setup as it progresses.

Well, the plans for today changed. I am now not going to do anything with the tank. Red volvo battery caught fire and the car burned. Now it is time for some Don Julio and sitting on the couch.

The fire suppression system did its job though. Kept it mostly out of the cabin area and suppressed it enough for me to put out with fire extinguisher. Money well spent

Now to find someone to buy the drag radials, the roll cage and the racing seats lol

Sad thing is, this was it maiden voyage. Note to self, even if a battery tests good, 5 years old is still 5 years old.
