Hello again, another quarantine and treating question for my sick clownfish and bangaii cardinal.

I have just finished my copper power treatment and reduced it down below .75 PPM with a water change and Cuprisorb. Following the water change, I added 4.5 ml of prazipro (~18 gallon system) to the system and plan on following the process I have seen posted around the site of day 1 dosing, adding carbon day 4, water change day 7, rinse and repeat for three doses.

Out of sheer fear of adding my fish back to the tank after all this effort to get them healthy, I want to make sure I take every precaution and treat for any ailment they may have had. While I had initially thought it was velvet or ich due to the fish swimming into powerheads continuously, after seeing pictures of brook, I was unsure. Fortunately, the symptoms have since subsided after the copper treatment (within a week it was gone) but I’m afraid that it was just suppressed. Out of concern for this potentially returning, I ordered Ruby Reef rally treatment and I am planning on using it in a 90 minute bath twice (a week apart) before adding them back to DT once 76 day fallow period is over. I also have Safety Stop, but have heard mixed reviews due to lack of disclosure on formalin contents.

Let me know your thoughts and whether or not I should change anything in my process or thinking. Thank YOU!

Youre wasting your time with copper power at .75 as it begins to take effect at 2.0ppm however if your goal was to get copper low, I would have done one more good water change to get it close to zero. One ruby bath and continued treatment is sufficient as it is mild and safe for coral and inverts.
Regarding Prazi, to be safe , dose at 80% of recommended and apply initial dosage known as an interval lasting for 8 days, do a water change and do one more 8 day dose interval
Use airstone with prazi as it does reduce both oxygen and appetite. If running a skimmer, leave cup off first 24 hrs as skimmer will go nuts from the glycol solution in Prazi

Do the fish currently have any symptoms?
What copper level did you reach and for how long?

The copper/prazi quarantine works best for the majority of diseases but it does not work for Brooklnella. Reason is, except for formalin, there is no ready treatment for that. Ruby reef rally pro as a dip and a bath can work in minor cases of Brook. You don’t need a long fallow period for that disease because it doesn’t have a resting stage like ich does.

Thanks for the response! I had copper in the 2.25-2.5 PPM range during treatment for 33 days. I had added Cuprisorb following that treatment to reduce the copper level. Good to know for the future that the copper level should be lower before dosing prazi.

Sounds good on the dosing schedule for Prazi, I will follow the 8 day interval and do one more dose! No skimmer and airstone alreday running in QT, thanks!

Hi Jay, good question. No, the clowns do not have any sort of film or system as far appearance goes, though one of the clowns was flashing a bit on the PVC pipe in the tank and has had moderately erratic behavior (the smaller of the two tends to show submission so the way the larger of the pair has been acting is a bit strange, twitching in pvc, flashing, etc.). This is what gave me a bit of red flag. Cardinal is in great shape.

Seeing as symptoms have subsided (in the event that this was Brook) I do believe this is a mild enough case for Ruby to take care of it. I think out of an abundance of caution I will do one bath in it about a week prior to the fallow period being over. That way I will have some time to observe for any further symptoms.

Also, wanted to get your thoughts on three doses of Prazi. I have seen you suggest this in the past but Vette had suggested just running two doses. Any major difference in outcomes for 2 vs 3 doses of Prazi? Thank you!

It depends if the flukes are live bearing or egg laying - 2 doses works well for live bearing flukes, up to 5 doses are needed for egg layers. I have more information in this article:
