It's been 4 years since the Gen 6 - you'd think we would be seeing something new from Ecotech
I loved my gen 4's, but how many years can they work? I remember people saying they were only good for something like 10,000 hours? IDK I stayed away from the technical talk because I didn't have the tools. Some hobbyist and aquaculture still prefer the G4's...

The figure I used was one that I saw on Reef Central back when Radions first came out. I remember people were saying they couldn't possibly last 10,000 hours and others were saying longer. Some companies provide life expectancy of products. Take Kessil for example. In their general FAQ they have a section entitled 'what is the lifespan of my light'. In there they note 35,000 hours and the general conditions to meet that.
Basically it is hard to say how long they will last because part of the answer lies with the hobbyist. How we turn them on, off, how long are they on for the day, evening, and duration of the intensity. Then there is the care factor. Are we keeping them clean. Fans, surface, under, etc.
All these things will vary among us and why Bob's may last 1 year and Sally's last 8.
I'll add one more note - some pieces of hardware do not necessarily need frequent re-designs like an automobile. I understand why some may but in my opinion it isn't always warranted. Maybe this is something Ecotech is pondering now along with product material. Or maybe it is just a by product of Aperture consolidation.
Me - no idea. I'm still running SKY's so I am the wrong person to ask.
If light wavelengths and par are any indication, over on humble fish someone with a spectrometer and par meter took measurements of their gen4s brand new and then measured the something like 5-6 years later to reveal that there was little to no color shifts and intensity change.I loved my gen 4's, but how many years can they work? I would not be running them if they did that. I have gen 5's and have never had an issue.Gen 4 XR15s being controlled via a web browser using a reef link was my light choice for several years. I ran lights and vortechs both. I needed to add some new powerheads and ecotech stated the new ones only work on mobius. So I upgraded all ecotech devices to Mobius. That was easy enough until I found out Mobius has a problem keeping track of the correct date and time and I had lights turning on in the middle of the night. Ecotech failed to correct the issue and years later I still have to go in a few times a week and sync the date and time so the powerheads are running the schedule correctly. My radions are shelved and vortechs are gradually being replaced as they fail.
The date time issue is random and doesn't affect everyone but it is real and ecotechs failure to address it has pushed me away from supporting them. Supports fix was to sync the date and time when it looses track. Not the resolution I was hoping for.
Fortunately there are enough reliable products on the market that I do not need ecotech to enjoy the hobby.
This is what mobius does on a regular basis. Doesn't matter of I use it on Android or IOS. Also only using Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi was step backwards IMO. Its fun stuff still having vortechs running on 3 tanks.
I wish they would at least change it so it's honest and states Mobius's time is incorrect because my device time has never been out of sync, the app is.

I know it's no consolation for you, but Aperture recently pushed out a very promising update to the Experts community that seems very promising that fixed the time shift issue.I wish they would at least change it so it's honest and states Mobius's time is incorrect because my device time has never been out of sync, the app is.
Without divulging too much, it had to do with other equipment shared on mobius and how they interact with each other.I would not be running them if they did that. I have gen 5's and have never had an issue.
That's the mystery. Why do some have no issues while others do.
If I had your issues I would not be running mine.
That explains mine thanks.Without divulging too much, it had to do with other equipment shared on mobius and how they interact with each other.
I’ve been using my XR15 G4s since 2018 in few aquariums, my actual project is dominated by Acropora corals. 12 hours of light per day for 8 years adds up to 35,040 hours of use.I loved my gen 4's, but how many years can they work? I run G4's also ...would love to know what ur settings are in these pics ..Nice Balance !I’ve been using my XR15 G4s since 2018 in few aquariums, my actual project is dominated by Acropora corals. 12 hours of light per day for 8 years adds up to 35,040 hours of use.

When I measure the spectrum and output with ParWise (2 months ago), they’re still good. I check also with my Apex PAR meter and don’t see any changes.
I keep the Acropora at around 350–380 PAR using also 4x T5 setup. All channels are at 100% except for white, red, and green, which don’t exceed 15%, and UV, which doesn’t exceed 50%. From 11am to 11pm with 5h of t5.
For now, they're working fine. I'm waiting for the G7 or considering another brand in two years' time; I don't like the G5 or G6...
Some pics of my project:
