There's nothing wrong with resurrecting old threads, but here are some tips when doing so.

1. If you are asking someone a question about something they posted a long time ago, you might check to see if they are even active on Reef2Reef anymore. Asking someone who has not been on in a year how his new fish worked out is not likely to get a response.

2. Starting a new thread is easy, and likely will get more responses than attaching it onto an old one, especially a very long one. A new thread titled "What do people think of yellow clown gobies" will typically get several responses, while the same question aimed at a particular member from two years ago may not get any.

3. Again, starting a new thread is easy. If the question is not dead on the topic of the old thread, a new one is better. It will generate new discussion, and things may even have changed in some important way since the original thread was first posted. Bringing up a very old thread may start many folks reading it from the beginning, where there may be outdated information.

What amuses me are Hello responses dropped on a thread from a few years back. Seen two of those recently.

On another forum (for parrot owners) there’s a message next to the reply box when a thread is very old.

Would this feature interest you, Randy?

I would like to parrot what @Miami Reef and others are saying.

I would add that folks can send a message to other posters and ask them a direct question without bumping any old long dead thread.

I have been wanting a update on the one thread with the petco clownfish that got stepped on. How's he doing, is he still thin or plump back up
Stepped on? As in it flew out of the tank and was discovered by a foot?!

I stepped on a clown trigger at the lfs by mistake. After I told them about it they tossed it back in a tank. Hopefully no one bought it soon after.

Unfortunately I've done that with a clown jumper. Didn't stand much of a chance, I'm 6'2 and 120 kgs. Made a lid for the QT that day but I can still see his surprised expression, staring at me from my sock :(
