I am sure this has been asked, but I couldnt find it. My RO membrane is probably old enough that I need to replace it. Are RO membranes 'standard size' or do I have to buy a specific size to fit my RO unit? I know different membranes give different GPD..but I am just more worried about 'will it fit'. I had a local water company install my RO system a couple years back and they are no longer in business.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Which model do you have? Can you post a pic?

All the "standard" type units take a standardized size membrane. For example this "standard" 10" type unit from BRS;

It would take a membrane like this;

What is considered a "standard-sized" membrane in this hobby is called an 1812 residential membrane - 1.8" in diameter and 12" long (nominal).

Just be sure to match your membrane with the proper flow restrictor. Ideally, you should be getting anywhere around a 3 to 1 or 4 to 1 waste to product water ratio.

Agreed, if you don't have soft or softened water.
