Seeking advice

Currently right now I have a 55 gallon reef tank. The big has bitten me I'm only 18 and I am curious to wether I should upgrade to a 75 or a 90 gallon tank. I only want to upgrade once and idk which way to go I have overlook equipment so I just wonder cost of up keep and such. I could use all the advice I can get!!

Working on the same upgrade myself. I am going with the 75 because of lighting. I am using 48 LEDs and that won't be strong enough at bottom of a 90. Also I think aqua scaling looks better in 75. You can't keep bigger fish in 90 because the lengths are the same. Skimmer and filtration would be about the same just a little more flow in the 90.

I'd go with a RR 75. Cheaper to run (waterchanges etc) and is easier to aquascape.

I agree, I just upgraded from my old 75g and I loved it. The problem with the 90's is it is taller and you really don't gain much by adding the extra height other than wet armpits every time you work on it.

Thanks guys.. I was kinda trying to figure out if the extra for inches was really worth it or not. And I kinda wanted to just take everything I have now abd transfer just to give my tangs so more swimming room really lol

75g is a much better looking tank IMO but more water is better in terms of stability......you could add a refugium to make up the 15g difference between the two,and the shallower 75g tank wouldn't need as intense lighting,the extra 4 inches would make a huge difference in light penetration....

if you build your own stand and allow enough room,you could use your 55g as a sump system for the 75g too

You said tangs? As in more than one? If that is the case you need to look at a 6ft tank, tangs get big and like to swim. Having more than 1 in a 4ft tank is going to get crowded fast.

i just bought a 75, makes a great loking little reef tank, easy to get good water flow and mantain. lighting is pretty cheap to, best of all though is that its not that deep so the lighting par doesnt get lost as bad at the bottom of the tank

Yeah, I'd have to agree with everyone and say 75 gal. Will make it easier to get your hands in there without a step stool :) As in terms of stability, I don't think 15 gal is going to make a huge difference pending that you have a sump with volume in it.

well i guess im the only one that loves my 90g. I hhave had a yellow and a blue hippo in tis tank for about 2 years and they seem pretty happy. The deeper tanks allow you to build your aquascape up which makes for a beautiful reef. I love my 90 but cant wait to upgrade to my dream 155 bow someday. good luck withh this.

I would agree with the 75 gallon tank also. Good luck with whatevr you choose. The 75 will be cheaper though!

In my mind I want a 90 lol in my wallet I want the 75 and yes I have a large sailfin tang and a large purple tang.

if you get a shallow 90 gallon tank built i would roll with it!!!!! the equipment is gonna be the same on either tank so no worries there.... if your buying a standard 90 then ya the 75 would prolly be a better route.... maybe a 120 would really fit your needs ahahahahahah lol

If you are thinking of staying in that same size of footprint for the tank.
Have you thought about one of the 4ft. 120g tanks?
They are 4' x2' x2'. Just throwing that out there so you have even more to think about.

What size are you going with i have a 93G marinland cube and love it i would pick it every time over my first tank a 75G standered tnak.

yeah id love a 120 but nobody is selling one reasonable right now lol
I think i may go 75 gallon no disrespect to the 90 gallon owners, i just dont see any point in the extra height im not one to build my rock straight up. I like to make my rock scape nice and creative and different looking. Ill post pictures when i go and buy a tank right now im looking at at 75 gallon drilled for 200 or a 90 gallon drilled for 250 and i just need to make a decision lol

I just upgraded from my 75 to my new 120g and I really love the space increase. With those Tang's I would think of getting a bigger tank than a 75 or a 90.
