Hey guys my acros are developing white spots that slowly lead to death in the area. Im looking for some possible reasons. The green slimers were the first to start dying
I don't see any signs of pests. Only acros are suffering. All zoas, montis, and other LPS look great.
alk 7.8
Calcium 420
Ph 8.2
Nitrates ~15
Phos - salifert test apparently can't test low amounts so I have no idea.
Mg 1290
Tank is fed seachem fuel and gonipower 2x a week and frozen mysis daily.
Trace elements are added via all for reef 1ml daily. (This is a nano tank)

I had a huge bacterial bloom that killed most all of my corals and since then it's been a steady decline. The corals browned out but have recovered color. Now they are losing color again and getting white spots.

I was thinking possible bacterial infection. Should I call up the nearby vets and see if they will give me cipro?
Eh, maybe as a dip but I wouldn't do the whole tank. That may cause other problems.

ROS, reactive oxygen species after your bacterial bloom.

It's a shot in the dark but they may be feeding on the nitrates.

Need to make sure you have PO4 and ammonium.
How many fish are in the system?

I think people are going to read this and think I pulled this out of my a$s.

3 fish in the tank. I feed frozen food very heavily because I had nutrients bottom out leading to dino around 8 months ago. And reading my test is difficult the color of the test (salifert) is barely darker than the 10 mark. And from what I was reading that's a good amount of nitrates to have. The po4 definitely needs to be increased. I'll probably switch to reef roids for that.

But if I can get cipro I was going to dip the corals on the rocks not do a take dose to avoid nuking my microbiome

At a glance as mentioned I would say there may be PO4 limitation. I like to run my PO4 at 0.1 to 0.2ppm. Most kits on the market should be able to measure this.

But, I am bit confused!!!
This statement:
I had a huge bacterial bloom that killed most all of my corals and since then it's been a steady decline.

Contradicts this statement:
Only acros are suffering. All zoas, montis, and other LPS look great.

Have these corals been added after the bacteria bloom?
From my experience some corals take weeks/ months to show unhappiness. If they have been there from start perhaps they are just responding now to the initial shock.

I should have specified. A bacterial bloom killed most all of my acropora and since then my acropora that survived have been on a steady decline.

All other corals that are non acropora are just fine.

Sorry about that. Wrote this thread before my morning coffee!

I had something a few months ago (maybe vibrio) which was slowly, but steadily killing my Acros (all acro tank). I did some reading on this thread and started using the following:

RTN STN X
Bacto Therapy
Dr Tim's Eco-Balance

I made sure my PO4 and NO3 were at good levels. Then, I used all of the first two of the products above before using Dr Tim's. After the STN subsided and growth resumed, I discontinued Dr Tim's.

Good luck...I know first-hand how frustrating it can be.

RTN STN X is a relatively a new product. What are your thoughts on it specifically.

Well, it prevented further attrition in my tank without any side effects. It is expensive (~$90 for my 100g), but when one considers the thousands of dollars invested in Acropora, it was a no brainer. I'm not so sure I would have had the same success with RTN though, just from knowing how fast things can happen. You would have to have a bottle on the shelf and be ready to administer.

For po4 I don't have reef roids or anything. But I do have florin-p by brightwell aquatics for my fresh water tanks. Would that be safe to use on my reef?
