So my 5 gallon tank is now cycled (ammonia , nitrite 0, nitrate 50 ppm)

It's got two pieces of live rock and a red grape macroalgae.

Now what? Coral? More macroalgae? I don't have a sump, so it's gotta be a "planted" tank

I agree, what do you plan on adding to the tank? You’re a little limited in fish options with it only being a 5g

If this is your first tank, I would advise some other type of macroalgae as well and maybe some sort of zoanthid if you were looking for stocking advise.
Take the time early in the hobby to try some macroalgae like you have been doing.

Frog fish might fit and remedy for that 50 ppm nitrate likely best served dosing carbon although macroalgae would solve it naturally if intention remains to go plants. Might want to also consider photosynthetic sponges for some color and functionality. I'm heavily leaning that way. That frog fish would likely blend it depending on species kept.

In the 80s reef meant live rock and inverts plus fish. Some CUC seem entertaining such as zombie snails (nassarius) and who doesn't like a red scarlet hermit or smaller versions of that. Lots of options but not many with fins. Although mollies and guppies can be converted with guppies better fit for just 5g. Perhaps let them get established then add that frog fish who will predate on that unable to hide amongst the macroalgae such as dragon's breath or that blue thing I always forget it's name.

Frogfish will probably eat the sexy shrimp though.
I agree that cuc like hermits and nassarius snails can be quite entertaining!
Didn't know guppies could be converted as well as mollies! If endler guppies can acclimate to salt water a few of them would probably be good.
Porcelain crab, sexy shrimp, and cuc are what I would put in this tank.
