Tracking Spreadsheets?

Hey all!

I was sitting here at work just now working on spreadsheets (as I do 8+ hours a day, 5 days a week) and I was wondering if anyone does any kind of tracking using Excel?

I was thinking now that I'm starting up in this hobby again that it would be great to have a way to track growth of my corals. Probably not all of them, but at least the ones that are most near and dear to my heart. Not only could this workbook be used for tracking coral growth of certain pieces but also for tracking water tests on a separate sheet, etc

Has anyone done this or tried this before? Anyone currently doing this that would like to share what they do?

I may see what I can put together at some point, but if someone already has a good starting block I could work off that. I did a quick search on the forum and didn't really come up with much. Seems as though this has been discussed a few times before but nothing really came out of it.

I would even be willing to take some ideas and start building something if there is some type of interest. Again, it wouldn't be software but rather a hopefully easy to use excel file.

I do, But I use Google Docs Spreadsheets for interoperability between my phone, laptops, and desktops.

I compile, and query out my data monthly and sometimes bimonthly to check sats and graphs of levels.
Very handy for tracking and even *gasp* predicting pH and Calcium levels...

My friend started also and has had great success with all his nutrient tracking.


Although, I have never thought of tracking coral growth... In a way I do by monthly photos from the same angles for visual representations...

I work with Excel on a daily basis,I use it to track stocks,but never corals.

I edited the original post to add in the tracking of more than just coral growth. This was only my thought for certain corals, not all of course. The main purpose would be tracking of almost anything and everything in the tank environment.

For me it would be interesting to see which corals grow better/slower in certain parameters. You would be able to see this in an overall excel workbook. If one month you get fantastic growth on a certain coral and the next month nothing, check the parameters tracking sheet and see what may have changed...

Like I said, just something I was thinking about. Nothing may come of it, but just something I have always thought of.

I was also thinking of tracking where/who I get certain corals from, prices paid, etc. This way, if down the road someone asks me where a certain piece came from I can tell them without having to go back through my R2R PM's, e-mails...
