Vendor ratings - what do you think?

I have been asked a lot of times what I think of different places and just figured out that a vendor rating system might be a pretty good idea.
Due to the nature of the business, there is a lot of money involved nowadays, which means there are a ton of vendors now, which includes backyard reefing. Due to this, there is also some unscrupulous people that will edit photos, ship extremely small frags, hype stuff up, ect. Pretty much anything to make a buck.

I figured it would be a good idea to "seperate the men from the boys" with a type of rating system like I have seen elsewhere. This would be helpful not only for customers, but also vendors, as they could make the changes necessary to garner a better rating by taking care of their customers better.

Currently there is no repercussions for vendors and they can do pretty much whatever they want with impunity.

I was thinking something like a 1-5 star rating-

Price -
Communication -
Shipping -


I just thought I woudl throw this out there since I have had a couple problems myself. I have also have heard from a lot of others on it, but most of them don't post their negative feedback for fear of repercussions, or just rather not deal with it.

There is a lot more money out there now when it comes to coral. A $300 SWEET wholesale monti, chalice, or other stuff, is now being fragged out for $3000-$5000+ which is just insane. The allure of riches, breeds greediness and bad business practices.
There needs to be some type of stop-gap that will assist in keeping vendors honest while making it easy for the customer to post feedback.

i think the rating system already in place is great. its a fine line to walk when it comes to ratings. you have to make it very ballanced. if not you end up with a rating system like ebay now has were the buyers have the vendors by the OO's

I wasn't sure if we could use that for the vendors. I thought it was just for trades/sales between regular members? My club got a great acan from Fish N Frags we split up. I can give FNF feedback from this on here?

sure can. all my feedback is from sales on this forum.

vendors love getting feedback. all to often we send out corals and never hear a word about them good or bad. or even worse you get bad feedback when the person never said a word about it or gave a chance to fix a problem.

Hey no problem and its a good idea, but that system is for everybody. You can put your concerns with anything in the feedback part of the rating.

i think its a good idea. id like to spend my money at places that will take care of me. also, like some said, it gives vendors a chance to improve on their business.
