I am sad to say it but what this means is they way under priced the Trident. The market was ready to pay more. That money could have went to new and improved product development or better warranties but is going to gougers instead.

Terence seems to agree with you that there was room for a higher price.

Someone above was spot on in saying the only possible mistake is we priced the Trident too low. That is technically true. However I do t think many would have liked us doing that and we think it is fairly priced

Chances are they already have stupid high margins. It Probably costs them $60 to make.

Which in no way changes the price the market would bear.

4 people over MSRP, hundreds of thousands at MSRP, $60 cost - whatever point you're trying to make may be better received without the arbitrary number guesses.

I’m saying they probably set the msrp there because they didn’t want to take advantage of buyers by charging them $1,200 for a product that cost them $60. They were trying to be fair to their loyal customers by choosing the $600 price tag.

I had the extreme pleasure of running a bankrupt company trying to save some of my parents assets so their didn't have to live under a bridge when they retired.

Every day people came in and told me if they were rich like me they would be at the beach. I was living on cat tuna and paying myself just enough to eat.

I can’t believe these threads are ongoing. Please try to keep in mind that we’re talking about a device that automatically tests water parameters in a fish tank, nothing more. I personally think it’s a great product and is worth the money. If you want one, get on a list or frequently check retailers online. If you don’t want to do that, pay a premium and get one tomorrow. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything at a higher price. @MnFish1 couldn’t have said it better in this thread, life isn’t fair and everyone has the same opportunity to buy one. These threads are turning into nothing more than a support forum for those who haven’t been able to buy one yet.

That site shows in stock but after wasting 30minutes trying multiple cards and addresses, and getting cart emptied, it says to contact the supplier every try. Not a good site.

I posted on another thread of one that was in stock been eyeing it for a week. I almost bought and threw on eBay to price gouge someone who wanted to pay a high price. I bought one Black Friday after staring at it for days trying to figure out if I actually wanted one. I have also found 6 month supply of trident reagent for sale. I use Google to find stuff for sale on other websites.

Don’t know if this was mentioned but, this situation is very similar to collectible sneakers. For example...a certain sneaker has a retail of 220$...so people buy a TON of them and then resell them for double or more...it really ruins it for most people and is a shame but what are you gonna do

100% agree supply=demand. If supply is low, price must increase so that supply=demand. Once the supply increases, price will go down.

I am really disappointed to hear R2R started to regulate this here. If someone is willing to pay to get something sooner, then that’s ok. If you feel it’s “price gouging” don’t buy it. But to say it’s wrong and try to regulate, not a fan.

I’ll be interested to see when R2R starts regulating the sale of torches. I mean aren’t indo torches selling for 10x what they were two years ago? How is the trident different?

The trident has a set msrp. Corals do not. Corals sell depending on color/size/health etc. Neptune system’s rep Terence said that the company does not support the selling of tridents for a profit. If r2r let’s that happen, it comes off as r2r supporting it. Hence, Neptune systems wouldn’t support r2r.

Economically I agree with you. People don't have to buy something more expensive - than they want to pay. Likewise - I can go to my LFS and make an offer on an expensive fish thats lower than the marked price and they can agree or disagree to it....

But - what R2R is regulating is not just trident - they are regulating 'flipping' in general. i.e. buying a coral at 10$ here and selling for $100 2 days later is also 'forbidden'. And since it's their site - they can do what they want.

The reason they can do this with trident is that most people are buying trident at $599 +tax, etc - and then trying to sell it at a higher price - i.e. they are trying to 'flip it' which (like it or not) is against the rule for 'everything here'.

With coral - (according to what I understand) - if they can document that someone bought lets say a torch frag for $10 and tried to sell it a short time later for $100 - that would also be banned.

To an extent, fine, we don’t need R2R turning into the black market commodity trade for coral. But I haven’t been able to get a trident yet and there have been a few times I’ve almost paid $200 more for it. Why? because I want it now not later. If I am willing to do that, why can’t I do it on R2R instead of having to go to eBay or offer up? Hard to regulate but just saying absolutely not is pretty rough.

So...I seem to recall that Neptune said that they would not support aftermarket or third party sells. Not sure if that is still the case or how they would know, but that is what was posted a while back. Having said that Tridents are in stock and a few just this past week at both BRS and Marine Depot. Best thing to do is post in the Trident in stock thread - forget the exact name - but people post in there all the time when they find them and/or the 6 month reagent supply. You will get one shortly once people know you are on the lookout.

More importantly keep this in mind that this not just a Neptune / Trident issue. GHL is asking people to put a 50% deposit and other products for which I won't mention a name required 100% paid in full. I think Neptune is doing the right thing honestly and they have been up front and honest from the get go why it takes longer per say compared to just ordering the manufacture to crank up another 1,000 return pumps. Not the same.

Lastly I'll leave you with this little gem. I've been shopping around for a Ford GT500. I can spec out the build at a little over 105. However, local dealers to include cross state line are adding 45K ADM to the price of the car. Found one in California and the dealer was asking 169K for the car and it didn't even include any of the track packages...

Doesn't matter what hobby we are in folks. Business will mark up in the initial round and others will find a way to buy early or skirt rules and mark up/ ebay and it will last a year or two. People will pay. People have more money be it smarter, wiser, working harder, born into it, or just blind luck. It is what it is and always will be. But having said that - let us know you are looking and people here will be on the look out. That is honestly how a few of us got ours.

Edit: Maybe consider changing the title if you can. Leads one to believe Neptune / Trident is the cause of the problem and that isn't the case. At least how I read it.
