Why do we insist on saying it backwards?

Yes, the relationship is a symbiotic one.

Interesting perspective... sending invitations.

What is the invitation sent out by the anemone? Does it secrete something that draws clown fish in?
The most likely and perhaps obvious thing that the fish gets is a hideout from other fishes that get stung if they try and get to the fishes hiding in the anemone's tentacles. Why the clownfish are attracted? I think it is very interesting that tank raised clownfish often have no experience and often appear to have no clue that they "belong" swimming in the tentacles of an anemone. I have two now that can't seem to get it?

Tank raised as opposed to wild caught; this makes sense to me!

It stands to reason that a tank raised clown fish who has never seen a Nem, wouldn't know what to do with it when they see it for the first time.

Yes, if crashing in a nem is a learned behavior the absence of nems in captivity could create what I have observed. What one may surmize, is that the anemone isn't sending invitations that a clownfish recognizes once it comes into the presence of a nem (in captivity), or else they would dive right in.

That clownfish will crash in corals (lps and plate corals are two I have seen) suggests that the stinging cells of corals and nems may attract or entice the fish to stick around?

I am going to catch my larger clownfish and put it in a time out box with a nem and wait for them to get cosy. Then I will release the fish into the fish tank where clones of the same nem are living. I did this for the smaller (male?) and it decided to ignore the nems and swim out in the open with the larger clownfish. 🤡👺

My clownfish choose their anemone (or coral), not the other way around

So, seeing that the clown fish seeks out the anemone, it is correct to say that the anemone is hosting the clown fish.
Nah there its not hosting.
Honestly the Nem can do fine without the clown.
The clowns are squatting. Meaning they are making the house there's until they can go to court and claim adverse possession, and take over the nem legally.

I think it's just easier to say my clowns host in a bubble tip anemones vs the other way. I imagine so many new people in the hobby have something to do with it as well. I'm still wondering why we call lime water kalkwasser, unless your German of course.
We sound much cooler when we say, "kalkwasser."

If there's a handful of parties going on tonight.
They're all waving and advertising for other party goers to come.
You get to choose which party to attend.
After, do you thank the Host or pat yourself that you hosted the party?

When choosing & entering a bar/restaurant, and the Hostess seat you. Are you now the Host?
