Hey guys!
I just received the Red Sea tests for Alk, Ca and Mg yesterday. I just got finished with these tests and my readings are somewhat high. I did compare the results with API tests I already owned (Ca & Mg) and they were spot on with each other. I currently DO NOT dose my tank for any of...
So today a couple friends came to my house and are really knowledgeable about both marine and fresh water tanks, they are from argentina and brazil they came to the house for a beer and to talk about corals and fish,
one of the guys told me that he wanted to test my water so i handed him all my...
I know you can get calcium deposits, if you add excess Ca or add it too quickly, but why would I be getting calcium deposits without adding anything to the tank? I'm using Reef Crystals, and have normal water quality, as far as I can tell. Can someone tell me what might be going on? Could the...
Hi, I have a GEO reactor, and always have the problem to maintein the effluent of water running equaly, i tried several kinds of valves and methods and always the output stop or minimizes the drip rate.
i look for some different method and find the Calcfeeder pro controller of Pacific Sun...
Like the title states, I decided to break down the recommended dosing instructions per brand to help me (and possibly others) when deciding on what supplements to use and dose (and how much if switching). Also Randy, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.
I decided to do...
Hi guys,
This forum has been very helpful with all my beginner questions and was hoping some of you might shed some light on my ongoing problems with water chemistry. Tank has been up and running for about 2 months and the levels don't want to stabilize. LFS says the water still needs to buffer...
From two months i have been using calcium reactor on sps dominated 75 gallon tank. The calcium is stable around 430 ppm but the alkalinity keeps dropping if i dont dose alkalinity. Its like my tank is using alkalinity more than calcium.
how can i keep both Ca and Kh stable using just calcium...
I have been monitoring my alk every day (mostly) for the past 2 weeks and have seen some interesting trends to which I cant figure out the cause.
Tank is a 180 gallon 6x2x2 mixed reef. Three live rock pillars, sea floor special sand (1-2")
Fish are:
-Dejardini Tang
-Blonde Naso Tang
-Yellow...
So I've been advised that mixing Red Sea A (powder) in 2L coke plastic bottle will resulted in the plastic bottle not being able to handle the heat which is emitted by the stock solution.
Is this the case?
I've been battling algae on my sand bed and rocks since i think my tank went through a mini-cycle about 2 months ago when I was vacuuming my sand bed during water changes. I do water changes every other week and do about 30 gallons and now, just vacuum the algae off the surface of the sandbed...
Hey everyone,
I am new, like literally signed up today. I have read a lot of info and learned a lot of things from this website so I thought I would join. I am fairly new to the hobby and am obsessed ( obviously) its so fun!
Anyways my question is, what is the ideal numbers for alkalinity...
For some time now i've experienced a constant drop of my Alkalinity although my Calcium and Magnesium do not drop remotely as fast.
It's perplexing.
Does anyone have experience or insight as to what could be causing this?
My current 2-part dosing schedule splits Alkalinity and Calcium into 2 separate times utilizing the Reeftronics program generator to program my Apex and BRS 1.1 mL peristaltic pumps.
I dose 60ml of Alkalinity over the course of 12 hours from midnight to 1200 - my logic being to help buffer the...
ok I tested my calcium on Monday and it was at 390. I tested it today and it was at 410 and I have not put anything in my tank to raise it. I was wondering what would cause it to do that?
Good evening reefers
Test results as of tonight 12/15/16:
SG: 1.025
Nitrate: 0 ppm
Phos: 0 ppm
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Calc: 400 ppm
DkH: 12-13
So I am currently dosing Kent Purple Tech to bring up my calcium levels. I am hoping that the high DkH is being caused by that, I am not sure what else could...
I've read about others experiencing this but didn't give it much thought as I go through my tests well before their expiration date. My "old" -- less than 1 yr -- was off by 170 ppm. It was giving me a reading of 400 when I was really closer to 570.
That got me to thinking, how many have...
My favorite most helpful LFS closed and I'm having some issues with dosing calcium and alkalinity on my own! I dose a 2 part daily in my reef tank. My alkalinity is at 8.5 dKH (right where I want it) but my calcium blew up to over 500 ppm! I need to lower my calcium (I'd like to hit the 400...
I'm in the market for Hanna Checkers. Looking mainly for the phosphate, alkalinity, and calcium. Looking to spend around $30 shipped (each) for them or less if possible. Let me know what you have and your prices!
Hi
with the announcement of the P4 we also mentioned that Alkalinity and measurement of other parameters (e.g. Ca) are coming soon.
Personally I didn't expect that much of feedback and interest in these planned new features for the ProfiLux, actually I wasn't aware that this is something...
Let the reef science begin,
We have been reefing for a few years now with a 10 month break due to moving. Always for the longest time we have had phosphate control issues with difficulty in obtaining a nitrate level despite heavy feedings. Some have dosed nitrates in various forms along with...
There was an excellent thread put together quite some time ago now by Billybeau1 and hilgert. I've referred to it may times to see if someone is close to the expected values of a particular saltmix. There can of course be slight variations and if any settling has occurred in the mix before use...
There is no aspect of reef aquarium chemistry more important than calcium and alkalinity. Many of my previous articles have described various aspects of these systems in detail. In reading those articles, aquarists will note one pervasive theme: that maintaining appropriate levels of each are...
