Bye-bye LEDs hello mh!!!!!!!

Well after taking a few corals from my Current led only display and placing them in the new cube 250w phoniex 14k I'm kind of disappointed!!!!!!!man they look like poo!!!!!! In my display there awesome looking under LEDs take that same coral 3 seconds later under a mh and there really brown or dull..... Arrrrrrrr not dissing LEDs but it makes sense now when I sell frags everyone says they don't look that good in there tank.... Thoughts????? Any one else done the same thing????

I know I'm more leery of purchasing corals from vendors now cause I don't know who uses LEDs and who doesn't so I don't want it to be a disappointment when I get them in my tank ya know what I mean but they'll adapt man my corals look great under my halides

I guess it's one of those things I have experienced this in the past when I pulled a coral from under my radiums and stuck it in my t5 frag tank.... I just didn't expect such a drastic difference... I love my LEDs and will use them Again for sure I still want to put some on my cube.... More of a shock than anything..... Another thing is looking at the 2 displays side by side the shimmer on mh can't be duplicated.....dunno lol... Most of my sps look stupidly awesome in my led tank I guess it's one of those things they have to adapt again I hope some hold there color because I couldn't pull it without LEDs......

i love radiums and thought i would never change them but i just switched to ais and love the color. plus not using 300 watts to drive them is also cool

It kind of makes sense. I have been leery of switching to all LED because and LED can ONLY emit one spectrum of light. MH on the other hand have a wide spectrum of light in each bulb no matter what the "dominant" color is. I love the way all blue LEDs make a coral look though. But thats why I would only use to supplement my MH.

I know cherry corals set up a plasma display about 2yrs ago not sure what happened with it thou they quit updating it.... There is actually a member on here running plasma Also...

I have been running all LEDs for about 6 months now and am not sold on them as the primary source of light.my sps look good and all but the growth just isn't there for me.on my new tank I have decided to go back to a 250w MH and will supplement with my current LEDs for extra coverage and pop.I have liked the lack of heat and low watt draw but that isn't enough for me to keep them as my primary light source.

I have a t5 tank and mh tank and people that have seen my zoas under t5 are like those look NICE but same zoa under mh gets no reaction heck it gets another sort of reaction when I point em out imo mh is great for growth not looks so grow out under mh and get that pop under t5 or led's

Dang TL, I just finished my LED build and love the look... Still acclimating my tank so only running about 35% but I love the shimmer and I hope to get some par readings soon. What a difference from my t5s..
Hope I can get the growth everyone gets from LEDs...
I doubt my wife would go for plasmas..

LEDs should be an addition to T5s/MHs, but as a main source I'm still not fully sold, yet.

Not sure I understand the "one spectrum of light" comment. LED was the only lighting source we were able to use that could most closely replicate solar spectra and output at sea-level... while I was at a national laboratory. Reliance LED was the party responsible for accomplishing said feat.

Well put rev haha I know I've tried a lot of bulbs and always came back to Phoenix but I don't like them without actinic supp the only bulb I'm thinking of changing to is the neuco deep blue star 20k de bulb they are hot I love them on a tank I maintain I would take them over radiums hands down they are the first halide bulb I've seen running by themselves that I wouldn't have to have supp with

I promise you that I had an LED pendant running over one side of my 6 ft tank and (2) Radiums running over the middle and other side and you could tell no difference. I was testing it out and to be truthful the led side had a little bit more shimmer.

Well here is the thing..... My experience overall with LEDs, awesome 90 percent satisfied with them... Great color great growth little to no heat just all positive until now.... I know it goes for any swap of lights the corals got to start over and color up again but I feel like I have been lied to and people probally think I lied to them or cheated my pics when I sold frags and that's not the case at all..... Looking at my led display it blows people away I mean it blows me away now I sell a frag and poof all that magic is gone..... I always had great looking corals under metal halides and prolly the best Under these LEDs..... I'm wandering if I will ever be happy now without them.... It's only been a day haha... But just looking at these corals right now in the new cube there nothing compared to what I saw 2hrs ago and was staring at for last 6 months...:cry: gonna be very interesting none the less.... I also agree rev get what you like... This is gonna be fun over the next 6 months....

No comparison boss.... The metal halide throws shimmers off the walls in that room the LEDs don't.... When you have a million little focal points if course you get shimmer but it's a totally different kind than having a big gigantic focal point throwing it.... I will get a video and pix of a single coral unedited with my iPhone to show you what I'm talking about... I will snap a pic under the LEDs and then drop the same coral under the mh and with in 5 seconds take a pic again.... Just to share what I'm seeing......
