Caught this crab after I found him eating my dead Mandarin this morning.

Is about the size of my finger nail and originally hitch hiked on a Ricordea about 2 months ago.

Is it a gorilla crab? If so, is it cruel releasing it into the ocean? I have a place with lots of Rock work I can drop it.

I don't think sump prison is an option on my tank as I have an AIO.

Looks like maybe a decorator crab with the heart shaped carapace. Has it carried anything on top of itself? I don’t think they are reef safe but I’m not 100% sure on that. One of our residents crab experts may have a more definitive idea. If it ends up it’s a gorilla crab, get it out of there!!

Definitely haven't seen it carry anything. Any idea if crabs can even be put in the back of AIO tanks?

I’ve never heard of that. I’d think most AIO are too small and don’t have a flow line a sump. I’m definitely curious to see what our ReefSquad says! I know gorilla crabs are known hitchhikers so since it does wear anything maybe that’s it. This is the I’m following, waving the white flag, because I give up! 😂

I want a neon sign above my tank that says, "When in doubt, toss it out".
That's epic!

So after being caught dragging poor Gizmo into his hideout in my tank, and great effort by me, Mr. Krabs was sentenced to exile in the local Broadwater here on the Gold Coast after a Jury of fellow reefers deemed he was upto no good.

So long little guy, enjoy freedom.
