I started dosing all for reef this week to help out on elements. I am manual dosing instead of a doser.

Where should I dose into? Pour into display or in the back where the return pump is?

I've always dosed by the return pump, mixes it in well so that corals and fish don't accidentally get a direct shot of what i'm dosing

Mixing in well is very desirable, but make sure to not pour high pH supplements directly into a return pump or the impeller is likely to become coated with calcium carbonate faster than usual.

I have dosed AFR into the small return section of my all-in-one for a long time and have not had much calcium precipitation on the pump impeller. With higher doses of kalkwasser, I did have to clean the pump more often.

I manually dosed AFR for 6 months just dumping it into the return flow in the display with no noticeable ill affects. Its been on a doser for the last year dosing onto the sump chamber before the return pump. I'd do what ever is easiest for you. I only switched from manual dosing to automated because I was forgetting to dose some times.

Made this mistake before. Caked up a power head very quickly dripping sodium hydroxide right into it.

If you have a sump, the baffle before the return pump. Just make sure you clean the pump every couple months.
