@Randy Holmes-Farley they talk about fluoride here. Fast forward to about 1:09:00 ish. Dong is saying it’s scientifically proven. Thoughts?

Well, I’ve listen to this guy in the past. He is a scientist or something I thought. But considering he just stated “if you can drink your tap water you don’t need an RODI unit, just treat your water for chloramines”. That I can’t get behind, lol.

Nothing wrong with this, 20 years ago, many use tap water de-cloramine to the tank with success, nowadays some still do without any problem, They know to control elements in the tank.

Do you have a link to the video? What you posted is just a picture.

I’ve never seen scientific evidence that fluoride is “needed” by corals. That is a very different criteria than that deposited calcium carbonate contains it (it contains uranium and many other simple impurities).

I think it’s a fine plan to maintain natural levels. The worst it will be is a wasted effort, and perhaps it is helpful.

So out of curiosity, did he provide the scientific articles that show corals benefit from Fluoride?

That corals actually use it and that they require it, not just that dentist recommends it in toothpaste…

Curious, FM has been making claims for some time (since they released the Fluoride bottle) but they provide no data to support it.

I dont know but when i dose it nothing happened better, but while i stop dosing, many trouble with my corals ... so

What troubles with which corals?
Acropora only, mostly smoothskins and some millepora, some fade of colours, some appears sensitively to parasites, some peels off the skin from the base, that what i have the observation while the dosing bottle run out after few days or week and forgot to fill out.

One thing that makes me somewhat skeptical of fluoride is the lack of consistency in the issues folks claim when not dosing it (see comments in the linked thread above). Doesn’t mean it isn’t real, but if everyone saw similar effects on similar corals, I’d be more convinced.

I see the assertion in the video, but have not seen any evidence in the literature of it. I'm certainly open to it, but have not seen it. Perhaps someone who thinks that such evidence exists can post it.

The idea of tap water supplying F- is fine if the tap water is otherwise OK. I have nothing against maintaining F, just not convinced that it is essential.

It’s interesting about the tap water. I’ve been toying with the idea of dumbing down my EO unit to take cost out. Meaning, can I get away with only a mixed bed resin. Or, even further, can I use 1 mic carbon blocks only and a mixed resin bed. My tap water tds is less then 20. I’m processing my RODI in what I feel is an extreme overkill manor. Booster to 2x 150 membranes then 2 sediment filters (5/1 mic) then 2 carbon blocks (1/.5) 3 resin chambers. I’m wondering if I send my tap water in in place of my RODI on my next icpms, if that would clear the way for me. I need to change my membranes but I’m really curious if all this is needed if my starting point is less than 20 tds. One of the few things Memphis has working for itself is our water.
