Since I’m going to be posting a bit, I figured I might as well introduce myself! I’m David from Temecula California

I started keeping reefs and saltwater aquariums as a wee lad of 16, growing up in the Philly area - Go Birds!! After moving to California, I continued the hobby with a BioCube 29. Shortly after, I had my first child. Soon I found myself short on time, between work and family, and decided to take a hiatus.

8 years later, I’m ready to jump back in! My son has a keen interest in science - biology, chemistry, physics - what better a hobby to share with him than reefing?! My newlywed wife grew up on Kaua’i, and also shares a passion for ocean life. She’s been researching clownfish biology since I voiced my intention to start a tank, and sends me links to interesting research papers she’s been finding.

It’s the perfect plan. I’ll teach the boy how to properly maintain the tank, and the wife won’t mind how much money I spend on it.

Still, I have acquired the one key ingredient to reefing success that I lacked as a teenager - patience. I’ve been taking my time, deciding what size tank I want, equipment, lighting, stocking choices.. progress is slow but purposeful; and, perhaps, most importantly - Im sticking pretty close to my budget!

I scored an Eshopps display tank I found on CL, which fits perfectly on the stand that used to hold the BioCube. After considering a Trigger Systems 18 it and Eshopps Cube Nano, I decided to have a custom sump built to fit the stand. Hopefully that will arrive within a couple weeks, and I can get started on cycling. It’ll give me time to refinish the stand, which has seen some abuse throughout the years of being dumped in the garage for indefinite storage. I’ll post a pic of it for posterity anyway!

Looking forward to being a part of this awesome community!

Welcome David. I worked in Temecula for 15 years at Rancho ford before moving to CenCal a few years ago. Gonna be following this build. Keep the pics coming!
