Hi,
Could you please help me identify this species of Dinoflagellate.
They seem to fade off at night and get more and more on top of the sand as the day goes by. My snails seems to go belly up and my zoas are definitely upset for the last 2 weeks since it started to get out of control.
I am thinking about buying a Aqua UV classic 25W for 525XL but welcome opinions on how to get rid of them.
Thank you

It may be however it could be another bacteria just hanging around. Usually dinoflagellates come about when nutrients bottom out im pretty sure. Do some tests!

Yes my nutrient already bottomed at 0.
And I made the mistake to try to raise the nitrates and phosphates by feeding corals everyday with aminos AB+ while increasing the PAR at 1% a day to acclimate my acropora.
Since, I stopped AB+ and trace element, I turned off my light for 3 days and dosed dr Tim refresh and waste away as per the instructions.
I raised my nitrate and phosphates by turning down my protein skimmer. It is now at 8.5 ppm nitrate and 0.03 phosphate.
Calcium at 470, magnesium at 1350 alk at 8.5 pH between 8.25 and 8.4

I was able to beat ostreopsis a couple months ago. I don't think thats what kind this is but I'll tell you what I did.

1. Check out the Facebook group Mack's reef...Dinoflagellate Support Group(a lot of good information.)
2. Dose Nitrates and Phosphates daily. I started my tank with Marco dry rock and dry sand so I ended up using close to a liter of Phosphates.
3. I ran a Sicce UV-C Clarifier in my sump. Because it was underpowered and in the sump I'm not convinced this had a great influence.
4. Blew it off the rocks and sand nightly.
5. Used Aquaforest Life Source weekly. I can't be for sure but I think this had the greatest effect. A few days after my first dose the rocks started darkening up it it became much easier to blow the dinos off the rocks.
6. Stopped water changes and manually dosed calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium.
7. Ran GAC.

It will go away over night.......a month from now. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Thank you,
I attached a video on my post, and I think I might have prorocentrum. But I’m not sure.

Only saw the video now, I don't think these are prorocentrum, prorocentrum have a visible beak. These look near round. My first thought was coolia, check how some move in a circle. Not sure though about coolia, never dealt with them.

I think I want to identify them first, then look for the solution against them.
Right now, I still don’t have a definitive conclusion 😊 I will check for coolia

Coolia,
I am dealing with them now.
They do go in the water at lights out. I put a UV in the display and turned down my lights alot. Hopefully I can beat them sooner than later. I am adding some Microbacter7 as well to help out compete and just dosing Po4 and No3 to help build up other to out compete
