So I found this issue with my Two Little Fishes feeding magnet today...

I was a little concerned and it was already cracked so I took the cover off. It didn't look good...

And it only got worse from there...

I leave the wet side in the tank all of the time so this is probably my fault.

I guess I was under the impression that TLF used sealed magnets in their products. The only thing sealing this this was some sticky tape.

Thats why I havent done any in-tank magnets. You really need to be committed to doing it right... I bet there was supposed to be epoxy in that case surrounding the magnet...

You mentioned the case was already cracked and it sounds like you were aware of it. If this is the case, I’m a little surprised you made the choice to continue using it. Apologies if this is inaccurate. Julian pretty much has an impeccable reputation and TLF makes high quality products. If it was a defect, I am sure they’d stand behind the product.

I only found the crack last night before I took the back off. I don't know how long it was cracked and in the tank. From the looks of the magnet it has been wet for a long time. Like I said, my fault.
I was genuinely surprised (disappointingly so) with the construction though once I opened it up.

No harm in shooting TLF an email inquiring as to how their magnets are constructed.

TLF is replacing the magnet mount. Excellent support.

Apparently this is an early design which they have changed a while back; like 6 years ago...
The new design has an internal seal (no idea how they get it in there).

I must have have just gotten an old one still on the shelf at my LFS.

Happy to hear they’re sending a new one. This does not surprise me, at all.

Breaking out the old trusty homemade Apex break out box (See what I did there?).
I am going back to float switches. They are cheap just and work. They weren't broke so why did we "fix" them?
Out with finicky and expensive optical sensors that seem to fail annually and in with old faithful $2 floats.
Somebody convince me that I am wrong...
