So I live in Sweden and here, we do have really clean water that we drink. But I am really confused on if I should get a RODI system as we have really clean water and i've heard of some people here keeping corals without using one. I am new to the saltie hobby and just want to know if it's needed here as we have really clean and stable water or if there is some other reason for using one that makes it a necessity. So what should I do? Any fellow Sweden that know if I need them or not?

So, i'll get straight to the point. I live in Sweden and in Sweden we have really clean water, we don't really sell water in stores as we only drink from the tap. So i'm wondering from any Swedes or anyone who knows. Do I really need a RODI filter if the water is so clean or is there any other major reason I would need one for keeping corals based on the previous things said. Any help is appreciated!

RO/DI is definitely not always needed, but unless you have a good analysis of your water, it is not easy to know.

One issue is that copper from home pipes can be a concern (assuming you have copper pipes). To reduce that concern, flush out the pipes out to the street by running the water for a while before collecting what you intend to use.

My local water company gives a highly detailed report each month, and it has only 3 concerns: chlorine/chloramine, very high silica, and copper from my pipes. Those things may not prevent me from using it in some fashion, but I need to be aware of the concerns and deal with them.

I will check it out and we don't use copper pipes luckily but will check out the local water companies reports, I found the report and our phosphorus is at about 0,03 mg/L and if i need to check any others please let me know

I would see if you can find a detailed list of what is in your water like Randy said. Some people on here do well water instead of RODI.

Yes it’s needed. They aren’t that expensive and water is the most important part of everything we do.

Unless you have regular reports of exactly what is in your tap water, an RODI is required. And it needs to be YOUR tap water. Not what the city claims they send out
