Can’t seem to get a decent picture at night but will try tomorrow. However my dusky wrasse mouth has all of a sudden turned white (like he’s wearing white lipstick) google search has come up with mouth rot 😭 or injury.

What’s the best treatment for mouth rot in a mixed reed tank? I unfortunately cant QT

Thanks

Need pics under bright white lighting for sure but some causes are Coarse rather than fine sand as well as running into objects, and flipping frags which some wrasses often do.
Is it still eating and breathing normal?

Okay I’ll try and get some tomorrow once he’s awake.

Yes absolutely eating fine and being his usual self. My sand is abit course actually. Should I hang off treating for now?

Depends on what it looks like, a tiny whitish band at the mouth tip I’ve seen many times and not just that specific wrasse.

Unless it’s big or expanding, may just be normal.

Me, I don’t treat what I can’t diagnose.

Are you sure he is not wearing white lipstick? agreed a picture is worth 1000 words. I would watch and see if it's worsening. the most likely thing is a bacterial infection. IMHO - without the picture difficult to say. BUT - more history would help - because you're saying 'mouth rot' - it might be something else.

I wish it was white lipstick then I wouldn’t need to worry 😂 I will get one tomorrow once he’s out of his pit. He’s fairly new to the tank (3 weeks) he did hide away for 2 days and then was happy as Larry, ate straight away and became best buddies with my fox face

Looks like impact injury and if fish eating should heal on its own. If not eating, treat in separate tank using Seachem Neoplex
