There ain't no way that you can overate this fish harem:

Female

Male

Nuptial Male

I'll give you that, Flame Angels are beautiful fish, the rest of the dwarfs fall into the other category!

Firefish Goby. Too easily frightened and can hide a lot. I like gobies/blennies like a Midas Blenny that exhibit interesting behavior like peeking out of rockwork and looking around but Firefish just hide and don't really add anything interesting to watch in the tank.
Unless I put my hand right infront of its face, mine stays out all the time. I kinda got lucky to get a more bold firefish with personality and one that doesn't hide a lot.

1. Most Tangs (though I can see the appeal of some that are just so classic, but the “Tang Gang” gets old IMO)

2. Fairy and Flasher Wrasses (they’re pretty, but their lifespans + the fact many we buy are already male, don’t do it for me)

3. Designer Clownfish (give me the originals, please and thank you)

Underrated Fish:
1. Angels (well I wouldn’t say underrated but many still won’t take even the slightest risk with them which to me is unfortunate because they’re the most beautiful fish in the sea)

2. Halichoeres Wrasses (IMO I like them more than Fairies and Flasher Wrasses)

3. Harlequin Tusk / some Hogfish (not suitable for every tank and can get aggressive, but I find these larger wrasses to be more interesting)

5. Damsels (mostly Chrysiptera and a few Pomacentrus species)

6. Reef Basslets (Gramma, Liopropoma, Serranus)

7. Hawkfish

No offense to anyone just my opinion. XD

clownfish…
can’t stand em

CLOWN FISH!

We all own them
I always have a pair in my tank(s)
they're pretty to look at
but they're JERKS!

Clownfish. Haven't had any in years and never will again. Couldn't stand the two I housed for my buddy for a year before he decided to not come back to the hobby.

Cardinals. I have two PJ cardinals and they're pointless.

Sixline wrasse. Absolute devils and too many other better wrasses.
Clownfish and anemones are what brought a lot of people to reef aquarium. Most interesting of symbiotic relationship. And Oh so beautiful. I am so sorry that you guys missed out.

When I was getting into this hobby BRS told me to get some tangs and a sixline and those are my easiest picks for this.

Why get an aggressive, sensitive, disease carrying tang when I could get a rabbitfish like a foxface?
Why get an aggressive little monster sixline when I could get a much prettier and probably more peaceful halichoeres wrasse?

Tangs and FoxFace are hardy, fat healthy and beautiful if you even 1/2 way provide them with what they needed to thrive. I am sorry taht you cannot get your tangs to do well.

I definitely do not miss clowns or anemones. Had both many times. Way too many other awesome livestock out there to worry about clowns

Again, I say...

CLOWNFISH >_<

But if they are hosting Anemones and let me pet them like the ones we got this morning, they can stay!

Also, I'll take this opportunity to insert my shameless plug here...follow me on Instagram and/or TikTok if you have it! ;)
@BlueDamselReef

Took this vid this morning, and I could have stared at them forever!! <3
