Attaching pic of condition. It's a drain pipe connected to a gate valve connected to a filter roller mat. I want to discontinue that connection and connect back to the drain setup which you can see in the pic is directly behind it. If I cut directly to the right of the white 45 and I try to attach the coupler behind I only have 1/2" clearance. This is all in part so that I save the existing gate valve to avoid buying a new one.It should be fully on the 'pipe'. It also depends on whether it is a 'drain' or a pipe with 'pressure'. In theory - it could work depending - again in this case - a picture is worth a 1000 words
I'm sure there are PVC experts out there - IMHO - since its low pressure - it COULD be ok - BUT - let's say you bump it, or something else. I would just plumb it properly and buy a new valveAttaching pic of condition. It's a drain pipe connected to a gate valve connected to a filter roller mat. I think it'll be fine since it's the main drainIt should be fully on the 'pipe'. It also depends on whether it is a 'drain' or a pipe with 'pressure'. In theory - it could work depending - again in this case - a picture is worth a 1000 words
1"?Most fittings start to taper in around half way, how deep is the coupler 7/8ths? It’s iffy but if the pipe and coupler make a tight connection then the two can be bonded.
Another option is to cut into the 45degree fitting a bit. About 3/8ths should do. Once you have the fitting cut you make a cut on each side of the fitting, trying not to cut the pipe underneath. Once you made the two cuts you can chisel away.
If you put that on what’s left of your pipe and it spins freely then it’s a no go IMOI think it'll be fine since it's the main drain

It spins easy at half inch.. thanks for this. I better just do it right and get a new valveIf you put that on what’s left of your pipe and it spins freely then it’s a no go IMO
