Quarantining from Dr. Reif

So not trying to add fuel to any fires, but I would love the opinion of the community on quarantining fish from Drreefs . I’m sure this has come up before, but what is the fish, medics consensus on whether there should be any change to the quarantine protocol per reef2reef for Watanabe angelfish that have been through the protocol at Dr reefs. The two fish I’m getting will be housed together in a 50 gallon quarantine tank. My plan was copper followed by Praze pro with a brief observation in beginning to make sure they were eating I am going to follow the consensus of the fish medics I.E.what would you do?

I've never ordered from Dr. Reef, but I believe he offers both "conditioned" and "fully quarantined" fish. I believe we may have to be specific about which category of fish we're talking about, when deciding if they need to be QT'd or not.

I feel like if you are going to quarantine fish yourself you should just order fish without the quarantine. In part because the stress of such extensive back-to-back medicated experiences would be way too stressful on the animal. And it would save you money to boot.

You are correct; they come two ways. Dr. Reef’s fish are great! My Pink-Streaked Wrasse was the conditioned variety and it is super fat and healthy. Can’t speak to the QT variety, but I’d assume you’d still follow whatever you normally do. Hope it works out!

I hear you, but there is some comfort in knowing they’ve already been through a quarantine process and closely observed by a very reputable source. It may come down to “do what you’re comfortable with call” but when you spend 350 bucks on a fish, i kinda wanna do with a consensus of the experts think. at least that’s how I look at it. Thanks for your thoughts. I don’t like to deviate from what they think, the way I see it, there’s a reason why they are fish medics.

It’s interesting but I just read their terms and conditions, it says they expect you to observe fish for 14 to 21 days, do not put them in your own display tank and if you do your own quarantine/medication process, it voids the guarantee. Wow.

I recommend to do your own quarantine especially after shipping even for 14-21 days and assume they may have something. Disease is on us, not the fish

Run copper at 2.25ppm and PraziPro for two applications 7 days apart at 85% of recommended dosage

So copper for seven then prazipro for 14? Or are you saying both together for 21?

At minimum do observation. While Dr. Reef is awesome there’s a fluke going around that seems to slip through prazi. Believe Dr. Reef does only one round of prazi treatment plus maybe a bath. But I now at minimum do observation and usually add a double prazi treatment (every 7-8 days dose prazi).

This. I would't do back to back quarantine. I would either trust the vendors quarantine or do it myself.

I dont have the space and equipment so I do buy pre quarantined fish and take the risk. I have had a really good experience with Dr Reef in the past.

But if I had the space to do additional quarantine I think I would just do the whole process myself.
