Starting up a new build thread for my newest system

redsea reefer xl200 build

radion xr15 blue g5

Bubble magus 3ex skimmer

Jebao dosing pump

13 watt uv

Phosphate / carbon reactor

Swapped out filter sock for filter cup (redsea)

(X2) innovative marine wave link pumps ( med ) set on pulse mode

53 gallons total water volume ( empty ) I’m at around 45 / 48 gallons (approx)

3d printed skimmer riser along with the doing pump shelf

mostly Marco rock and maybe 2 pieces of Carib sea reef saver base rock

30lbs of Carib sea course sand (I believe fiji pink)

acrylic dowels for aqua scape along with regular super glue. Drilled the rock and installed multiple dowels into each rock that needed the extra support. Some of the sections have the heavier more unbalanced rocks placed up high so I wanted to make sure I had all the support I could get.

cycled using prodbio bacteria along with aqua forest cycle bacteria. Tank had zero ammonia and nitrites within 7 days after adding bacteria. Dry rock was soaked for a few days before I had the tank running.

kept bacteria fed with seachem reef trace 2 part amino acid supplements. I feed the bacteria with the vitamin / amino heavy bottle .

I now have a small torch garden being acclimated to the lighting schedule I have set for this system. The par values are a bit on the higher side because I will be keeping sps in this system.
their is a button scoly that is on the larger side for sure! I also have a lobo on the left hand side that has already been shifting colors a lot since I took this picture.
I also have a bernardopora.
I’m feeding all of them baby brine shrimp that I hatch fresh along with amino acids and benepets

amino acids used
Seachem 2 part trace and amino acid formula

acropower

aquaforest AF GROWTH BOOST POWDER

Coral particulate foods
Benepets

zooplankton seachem

reef roids ( not too often but I sometimes will blend this into the coral food mixture I make myself )

polyp booster

redsea A+B

multiple foods from the brightwell line

I enjoy mixing it up when it comes to feeding. I try to keep a good variety on hand at all times for the corals. I enjoy experimenting a bit when it comes to feeding / mixing some foods together. I will typically make a coral food mixture packed with particulate foods crushed lps pellets and amino acids added into the mix as well. I blend it up with a coffee froth. I usually will feed smaller amounts multiple times a night when I am feeding the corals. I just try to simulate what I feel it would be like in nature so I like to do things that way. It probably doesn’t really make any difference it’s just somthing I enjoy doing.

I grow phyto cultures myself along with pods that originally were purchased through pod your reef

baby brine shrimp 1-2 days old at most. I hatch new eggs daily as of now. I soak them in garlic and vitamin c for a few hours before I feed. I’ve gotten great color and health results in my fish for years doing it this way the corals that eat the shrimp always have very good reactions + coloration after doing this for a period of time also.

( I do this so often now mostly because I was sent a free mandarin goby with an order of corals I purchased online and I really wanted to give it a good life. I’d feel terrible just letting it starve so I started culturing pods / phytoplankton / baby brine shrimp) I feed the mandarin goby the brine shrimp using a method I read about originally on reef builders. I basically have a cup with a mesh top covering it tightly hidden behind the rock scape by his little hole he made back there and he can sit on top of that mesh screen and pick out the brine shrimp as the swim upward towards the light. I just refill the cup once a day or so and that usually gives him enough to have a constant supply. I also replenish pod cultures in the tank because I see him picking all day long so I know he’s running through those pods in there like nobody’s business! Lol

I have two cardinals one bangai and one pajama

6 line wrasse

Mandarin goby ( like I said above not at all planned. He was a surprise guest sent in with a box of corals.) if worst comes to worst I do have mature systems currently running in my house. I figured since I culture my own pods / phyto I’d give this tank a shot. He eats very well to say the least.

About 14 snails maybe 15 / 16 not exactly sure at the moment.

0 hermit crabs as of now. Might add later on if I feel the system can use the extra clean up help

( I have avoided hermits for the past 2 systems I set up. I’m not a huge fan of them climbing all over the expensive torch corals and my sps. Not saying they will kill the corals or anything like that, because I’ve personally never experienced that.) it’s just something I’ve been testing out.

CORALS ON THE WAY

Rose bta- adding before the tank is jam packed with coral so I don’t have to stress about any warfare happening while it’s moving around.

Og purple urkel chalice

Jf slow burn montipora

Tck insane long tentacle gold torch ( indo )

jf aqua man montipora

once the new anemone is settled into this system I will eventually get a pair of traditional orange clowns and hopefully they will pair up. I’d like to start breeding them. I used to breed a nice pair I had a while back. It was a midnight clownfish and an orange and that was always super cool. I’d like to get to experience that again . If I can get to that point I will start a culture of rotifers as well which won’t be to difficult since I have all of the phyto and everything going already. The only reason I’m getting the classic clownfish is because just based off of my own past experiences they seemed to be fairly gentle with the anemones. Maroons / tomato / carkii were all very abusive to I’m going to try to avoid all of that drama if possible. I’d like to aqua culture the rose anemones down the road and fill a tank with just them later on when that time comes.

you know how it is lol the plans never stop when your into this hobby!

thanks for checking this out to anyone who stopped by! I will update when the new corals arrive !

thanks everyone happy reefing!

Good luck with the mandarin!
Thanks so far so good! He’s been running through the baby brine shrimp and pods hahah he literally never stops! I’m just happy to see that he’s super active. They are super interesting fish I enjoy having him in the system

Keeping these new corals in the sand to get acclimated to the lighting intensity because I do plan on doing a decent amount of sps acros and montipora stylo etc. but here are some pics I have from this build so far

Frag tank bonsai rack ( TSA STYLE )

s/m/l clam cradles designs

just figured since these are some recent things I’ve been working on is add them in here. Someone on Instagram wanted 9 of the clam cradles. I plan on getting a clam fairly soon for this system so I wanted to have a nice clean design ready to go for when that time comes . I always use neon petg or pinkish purple it’s pretty much the same tone as coralline.

Clean set up man! Came over to check it out after you posted! Love it and the direction you've gone. May have to take some notes from you! haha. Also, loving the 3D printer element of this. Not something I really thought of much, but could see a lot of beneficial uses

wow man thank you for the compliments I really appreciate it! I've been trying to keep up with the reeferxl crew on here hahah I love your setup dude! aw man yea getting into the 3d printing game has really helped me out with some little things here and there. I first got interested in doing it a while ago, years back but I never actually wanted to invest. the prices have become much more affordable in the past few years especially for the ender 3 or the ender 3 pro models! I'm no expert but I can say from personal experience that the ender 3 printers from creality are pretty sick. they do a great job when you have them dialed in with the bed being leveled and the print speed toned down a bit. I actually just had a second one arrive yesterday so I can get some more projects done faster. they really come in handy considering alot of what these companies sell to to us when it comes to anything plastic like the plumbing add ons frag racks shelves lid supports in sump refugium's light shades really too much to list, is so over priced when we purchase them already made from these big retailors. so much can be mimicked fairly easy along with just creating your own prototypes in general. its a super cool sub hobby to add onto keeping saltwater reef systems . thank you for checking the thread out tho dude ill keep up with yours as well. looking forward to seeing what you have planned!

Super clean sump install and you got terrific photo skills too. Everything looks great.
Thanks Lavey29! Hahah I’ve been trying to work on my camera skills for a bit now since so many reefers are active across all of the different platforms. It’s really cool to see how that’s progressed over the years! Theirs some really amazing reef content out there and I’m just trying to stay in the mix as much as I can! I appreciate ya dude!

Tried my best to get pics of the bounce Yuma I found at a swap along with the pink Yuma next to it. They are tucked in the back of the cove so it’s tough with the blues on.
( super pumped about both but in 14 years this was the first time I saw a bright pink Yuma shroom! )

some full tank shots with some coral shots mixed in. All of the sps frags have began to grow and rocks are covered in coralline algae so I’d say the systems doing really well so far. Battled a small dinoflagellates bloom not too long ago but between dr.Tim’s bacteria / prodbio bacteria / dosing phytoplankton for all of the zooplankton (pods) because I know Dino’s can be extremely hard for snails and shrimp/ crabs. It was easy to see that the snails were being affected in the beginning of the bloom. They kind of slow down and become paralyzed sort of, so I knew I had to act fast once I saw those signs. Within about a week I had it pretty much beat ( ohh and brightwell razor along with brightwell microbactr clean ). Corals continued to grow throughout that happening and showed zero signs of stress. I noticed that dosing brightwell razor does drop the ph a significant amount for a little while. Every time I’d dose my sensors would go off and I’d get txts stating the ph is too low. My ph is typically around 8.2 and it would drop to approx 7.2/7.3 for a little while. The rose nem was the only one in the system that seemed a little annoyed once in a while. It was always open and bubbly just not quite as big as usual.
All in all I think brightwell razor is a great product to have on hand tho because it’s 100% destroys any algae also which was nice!
My macros in the fuge survived so also good to know that they will survive that treatment because I wasn’t sure how that was going to go.

torches have been splitting like crazy and growing really well. I noticed most of the heads that are split already have 2 mouths so they are working on another split back to back which is great! The torch garden is going to be pretty fat at this rate! Super cool to see them thriving.

added a BSA THE BEAST MONTI
x2 BLUE MALAYSIAN TORCHES
some new designer zoas I always forget the names and I have another shipment of frags arriving in the morning. Some acros / grafted montipora setosa / grafted digi / orange st Thomas mushroom super excited for that one . I’ve never seen one in person before so really happy to get my hands on one for the collection! Pink ******* chalice will also be here tomorrow. Sour lime zoas and a few others I can’t remember off the top of my head but I’ll update when they settle in to the system!

added the 2 rock cliffs you can see on the upper left hand side of the system. I just wanted some rock closer to the surface for sps because when the systems grown in I’d like all of the acros to be staggered starting from the water surface down . Just trying to use as much space up as possible for coral growth . I’m going to go fairly heavy with the acroporas in the future.

all of the hammers are splitting . Chalice ( og purple URKLE is now attached to my rock. Crazy t monti has grown and colored up nicely. Scoly is getting fat compared to when I got it! Really the corals are all great! Super happy with the system.

thanks to anyone who stopped back in for the update. I’ve been on ig updating a lot and showing the 3d prints I make and sell on there

@jtone_philthy_aquatics

later everyone and happy reefing

PICS ARE SCREENSHOTS FROM A VIDEO I TOOK NOT TOO LONG AGO.

not the best pics due to them just being screenshots but I know some ppl aren’t fans of the all blue pics and I don’t blame them. Those can be deceiving for sure so these are some day time shots unedited from a cell phone video.

3d print is a custom design I did for my Instagram page it’s got the J P because of my channel name jtone Philthy .
Design is a Red Sea reefer Y return plumbing with built in turbid flow nozzles on both water exit points. Not yet trimmed in the pics here this was just as the print finished . I’m happy with the end results and I’m pretty pumped to see how it runs!
