I have a PopBloom 30 W Refugium Lamp and wonder if I should place it classically over the cheato, or as seen here (2:20 min), from the side? The latter clearly saving space but maybe loosing too much light energy by going through the sump’s glass (Red Sea Reefer Max G2+ 300).
Any suggestions? And what settings are most suitable for cheato?
Thanks!

I'd go top down for a couple reasons. Top down there is usually no glass for the light to penetrate through. If the lamp is against the glass you will need to clean algae off the glass that will grow where the light is at or it will block the light. You will also get better light spread over the tank. If the specs are correct that should be fine, but I dont know how big the red sea fuge area is.

Like I said I would put it on top. You should mount it as close to the fuge top as possible without interfering with access. Or mount it higher but you may have to devise a shade to keep light spill to a minimum so you are not growing algae in the skimmer.
