Hey all,

** EDIT - Take a look at the page from my photo website to see updated pics of my livestock. I will post pictures here as well. Scott Ramsden Photography - My Reef - EDIT **

I finally decided on the tank I wanted to set up and went with the 34g Solana. I have it up and going for now while I decide on what type of lighting and other equipment I want. I attached a quick picture with just a random fluorescent light I had sitting around for now (I cannot wait to get real lights on this bad boy!).

20110220-dnmj6kigme5q5g86xfau9597n4.preview.jpg

My current equipment is the following (Updated 6/1/2011):

  • 2 x MP10ES
  • ATO: Still trying to decide... my LFS is suggesting Tsunami ATO, I am looking into other alternatives like the Tunze Osmolator. Any help here would be greatly appreciated!
  • Tunze 9002 Nano Skimmer
  • Lighting: Tek T5 Fixture Bulbs: Front - Giesemann Actinic +, ATI Blue Plus, KZ New Generation (14k), UVL Super Actinic - Back

I have added approximately 25 lbs of rock (Real Reef Live Rock). I am trying to keep the look of the tank rather simple, rather than a large pile of rocks thrown into the tank.

Chamber set up (Updated 6/1/2011):

  • Chamber 1: Heater and Tunze 9002
  • Chamber 2: Filter Floss, PhosPure plus zeolite/carbon, Purigen & Chemi Pure Elite
  • Chamber 3: Return pump and ATO (currently using the bottles until I decide which ATO I want)

My fishes (Updated 3/19/2011):

  • 1 x McCoskers Flasher Wrasse
  • 1 x Clown Fish (Not sure on the exact type, my guess is a percula)
  • etc I plan on adding a few more things later on...

My girlfriend actually did the scaping! I don't have the patience for it.

As for SPS, I definitely plan on sticks, as those are my girlfriend's favorite. I don't know enough about them at this time to list them out. It won't be dominated by SPS, but they will be there in due time!

Thanks for the comments!

Haha! I basically showed her a bunch of pictures of what I liked, and we both picked through the rock at the LFS for at least a half hour to get the pieces we liked. Got it home and went to work. I really like how it looks, a little worried there won't be enough room for everything I want in the future, but I will make it work.

Sweet little tank you have there, always wanted a salona but didn't like the limited fish selection.

It's an old watermelon I had in my previous tank. I got it from A Reef Creation, but never truly asked what it was... My guess would be either tyree pink or red watermelon.

Quick update for now...

I have my MP10 coming in hopefully this coming week (along with plenty of other goodies like fish food, filter media, Brightwell Supplements, new testing kits, etc)

I am trying to decide which light system to run, either a T5 or an LED system. See my thread if you have a suggestion for me! I am currently just running with some low powered LEDs to keep me going for now, Ecoxotic Panorama 8000K/453nm and Powerbrite 460nm, until I can figure out what my real lighting will be.

Well I finally decided to go with T5's. Ended up getting a Tek system, and I can definitely say I am happy with my selection. Here is the full setup in all it's glory:

Ended up getting some L Brackets from Home Depot and bolted them real well into the wall. Turned out nice and is real sturdy.
