Just got a new Tunze 9004 protein skimmer. I am having a micro bubble problem from the sides of the unit. (See picture) It is like this on both sides at the snap point. I have tried re seating the cover several times with no improvement. Any suggestions or what should I do?

OK... If I am seeing correctly, this is an in-tank unit? Bubbles are coming from a seam where it comes together along the edge?

I would leave it be for a couple weeks.. It needs to "break in" Eventually algae will fill that seam and the escaping bubbles will stop.

Brand new skimmers almost always have a micro-bubble issue until they break in.

Edit: You could remove it and silicone the offending seam, but that sorta defeats the purpose of having it unsealed in the first place (assuming to make cleaning easier)

Yes it is a in tank unit. (Tunze 9004 doc skimmer) also correct the bubbles are coming from where the plastic housing connects together (front to back). I expected some micro bubbles to come from the top or the bottom during the break in period, but I wasn’t sure if the bubbles coming from the sides was normal for a new skimmer of this model. I have taken it apart and re-seated the housing seams back together several times and it didn’t fix anything. Here is also a pic of how it looks together and apart.

I have no experience with this unit personally, but I expect as it spends some time in the tank, the microbubbles will stop. I would leave it be for a few weeks. If it hasn't stopped by then, a more aggressive approach may be needed.

Thank you, I’ll see what happens. Happy thanksgiving!
