Wrasse qt method

Not true I've had plenty killed by other fish or a box fish one time that poisend the whole tank. I know a lot of people that don't qt because the stress you put on them may give them ick alone. And lots of fish even on here have died just because of the qt method alone.

I just want to clarify something. Running your fish through QT wont "give them ick". The ich is already present on the fish and manifests during a stressful QT. ick doesn't just appear, it's already present and shows it'self during stressful situations or times of a lowered immune system.

Nope. I used to think that way too. Given the proper environment, a fish will thrive in QT and live a healty, disease free live in the DT. You've lost fish due to disease. There's no other way around it.

I didnt mean to imply that it is always present. Just the idea that qt causes ick is incorrect. If you see signs of ick, it was already there- in the gills- out of sight until a stressful situation gave it the chance to get a better foot hold and show itself.

Is that the same selcon that was around "30 years" ago? You HAVE at some point in the last "30 years" lost a fish due to disease. Period. You will not find a tenured hobbyist on this site that would ever claim that. It happens. It's part of the hobby whether you QT or not.

Tough ones. I have 5 coming out of QT that I've built my tank around. It became my nemesis fish in college when little was known about them and collection practices were suspect. I applaud the only guy on the face of the planet that's been in the hobby "30 years" (are my quotes getting old) and never lost a fish. He needs to write a book!

It's ironic that you mention the BSJ. It's the fish that I added (after having one for over a year) that wiped my whole tank out and has me researching here. If only I had some selcon on hand.

I'm not the only one lots have not. Most the time a tank gets infected by what you buy at a lfs because not all are run properly.

So you've never kept a tang (ick), wrasse (worms) or a trigger (flukes)? I'm sorry, but you are stubborn. I am too. If you've been doing this for 30 years, you used gravel filters and QT didn't exist. I'm sorry the OP has gone off thread. Maybe someone will learn something from this. Maybe. Gotta go.
