Looks cool but i feel like you'd just have to fill the reservoir up a lot. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Sorry to bring back an old thread.
Has anyone here tried this and care to share your experience with it? Looks interesting.

A lot of people on nano-reef use gravity fed systems. It's a bit more reasonable on smaller tanks due to the size of containers available/suitable for this type of system.

I personally use a couple of float valves, an air pump, and a rigid container with some air line and an irrigation dripper to control the flow rate.

They work fine. It works just like a water cooler in an office building would. Like Skydvr said, some nano tanks come with them. The only way they can break is if they develop a hole in the top.

I use something similar with a glass sun tea jar.......mine doesn't really classify as an ATO though. Water just continuously drips through a piece of airline controlled by a valve. I adjust it based on how much water is evaporating. It is used to keep the salinity steady but wouldn't work longer than a day of me being away. I could probably just submerse the bottom of the air line into the sump at the level of the water and run it the same way as the one referenced in this thread.

As mentioned, has it's uses in small nano tanks, especially. This is what I've been using to great effect since 2008 on a 12g:

What it looks like with an acrylic shroud which hides the bottles when viewed straight on:

As long as the cap/spout is tightened sufficiently, there is no air leakage into the bottle. Also a very acurate way to dose Kalkwasser once the rate of Ca/Alk useage is known.

Is that just one of those rabbit water dispensers? Looks like it would work really nicely :)

Hamster bottle, I guess :)

Just have to remove the stainless ball(s) that are inside the tube. I also apray coated all stainless with polyurethane...just in case any heavy metals might leach.

It doesn't form a vacuum, and then stop dripping? Do you have the spout submerged, or above the water line? Thanks! I am looking for dosing idea like this for tanks with hang on filtration. Presently am using siphon drip from liter bottles.
