Aqua Warrior

Pro-Star 90 V2
Introduction
My name is Brian Chandler. I’m a Disabled Army Veteran.I was deployed to Afghanistan in June 2009-June 2010 and May 2011- Sept 2011. I then was honorably medical discharged in June 2012. I got into reefing in August 2024 as an alternative treatment for my PTSD. It has been an amazing experience so far. I have learned so much in the past 6 months about reef keeping, coral care, fish, and inverts. I am glad I started this reefing journey. I have met many people on Reef2Reef and local that I can now call friends. I have found a wonderful community of people that will help you if you need it.

Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Not really sure I’m new to all of this. So, I’m learning as go.
Finally have one Prime 16Hd still need 2 more ai prime 16Hds but making progress.
As a supplement light I’m using the Aquael Leddy Slim Actinic until I get 2 more Ai prime 16hd. Making the switch I got rid of my anemones for now. I will get more once this tank is fully mature. I switched to the prostar 90 in December from a HelloReef tank.

I do still need a protein skimmer and maybe upgrade my pump to a sicce dc controller pump. But these upgrades will be after my log hit purchases.

Right now I’m going to avoid buying new fish or coral until I get everything else I need. Below is a picture of where I’m at as of right now.

Thank you! It was rough making the switch from a small tank to a big tank.

The hard part is looking at all the empty spaces and not getting anything to fill it yet lol

I'm with you. Waiting for payday to add stuff is a good way to learn patience. Thank you for your service.

Update: I added a bunch more corals. So far it has been a very amazing experience. Learning to be a reefer has its ups and downs. My tank has been so great (knock on wood). I haven’t done a water change in 4 weeks. My Nitrates stay around 15-20. My Alk is steady at 10.5-11.5. I dose 25 ML of All for reef every other day and 10 ML of Red Sea KH on the days I don’t dose AFR. Salt level stays at 35 PPT. I use Red Seas Coral Pro Salt. I target feed the corals a mix of Reef roids, benereef and red seas AB+.

4 weeks ago I added 3 peppermint shrimp to kill one aptasia that snuck in. It was gone within 2 hours.

I added another firefish after my purple firefish disappeared. However, the one I added ended up jumping out and I didn’t notice. Needless to say I will not add anymore firefish.

I know it sound bad but I am wanting my watchmen goby to jump out so I can take him back lol he is a pain in my butt. I am wanting corals to fill my sand bed and I can’t with him.

Corals Added:
Jelly Bean Chalice
2 more chalices but not sure names
24k torch
Holy Grail torch
Lemon lime torch
I believe a baby Godzilla mushroom
4 more mushrooms I’m not sure what they are.
Aussie croc Scoly
A massive Lobo coral I won from a raffle
Gold hammer
Exosphere Zoa

Thank you!! I appreciate it. A lot of time learning as I go. With research on Reef2reef and asking question. It has helped me a lot. Now I’m Trying to learn how to get mushrooms to bounce and spit babies lol

I wish I could help with that but I have a tank with a couple sps, a lot of lps and soft corals and of all corals I have struggled with mushrooms. I gave up.

Bounce is heavy blue light. Spit babies is typically a little nick or damage to make them split. Or make them irritated so they "walk" and leave babies behind.

So I just cut it or make it mad? Mmm. Might try on one.

So I just cut it or make it mad? Mmm. Might try on one.
Usually mad is better than damage but typically people frag mushrooms with scissors or razor blades and then low flow in a bowl or box of rock rubble. They'll heal and attach or shrink/shrivel and die. The second is not the preferred outcome.

Updating my sump here in the next month.
I needed something bigger and easier access then what came with the tank.
I’m using the Trigger system Crystal 30.
I’m going to vinyl wrap the side and back, going to make some lids that will help with evaporation, going to be using a gravity fed ato with an ice cap magnetic float valve, going to add another filter sock holder.
Will eventually add a dc controllable pump. But I will stick with the basic Sicce 3.0 for now.
