Great build and tips, I enjoy your videos as well and I think I will be in the market for a 250 soon to upgrade.

Who made your ATO if I can ask? Looks great!

Absolutely! I reached out to Jake who runs Blue Tide Acrylics and asked if he would be interested in making me a custom ATO. He responded quickly and we began the build! I got in touch with him on Instagram ( https://www.instagram.com/bluetideacrylics/ ) If you don't have instagram I believe he has a facebook page as well. I will tell you that I originally looked at the Synergy Reef 10 gallon ATO, Jake's price was MUCH better and I didn't want the panels to allow light in if I ever decide to run a fuge in the sump area. Granted the front panel is clear but the rest is white!

Great build and tips, I enjoy your videos as well and I think I will be in the market for a 250 soon to upgrade.

Thanks for the kind words and following along! I think the Red Sea Reefer series tank are a solid investment, to this date I have no negatives on it. I am still getting used to the rimless tank and cleaning the glass, I still haven't figured out how to accomplish this without spilling water out of the tank. Maybe I just need to slow down! haha

BRS single reactor added to the tank with carbon and GFO -

For now the reactor is running off of the MJ1200 until I can get my manifold situation figured out -

After a week in the Reefer 250 the Nyos 120 is doing its job!

I totally agree the more I look at it the more I want it.
Also I have a rimless Nuvo 40 and still trying to figure out how to clean the glass without spilling water ...so you're not alone

It is 15" front to back 13" left to right and 12" tall. Little over 9 gallons. FedEx dropped it off tonight, I didn't do a test fit because I knew I wouldn't take it back out. Right now it is in the garage full of water for a leak test. I'll verify this weekend that it fits! Haha

I struggle staying dry while cleaning the glass too. Have to go really slow along the water line and If you're really quick w/ the mag float switching sides close to the bottom you can usually get and stay dry. Just got an artfully acrylic lid which seems to be helping some too.

That's what I am doing with the flipper, keeping it low. Also when I flip it I make sure I am 6 inches below the water line. Lesson learned! Haha

This is a temp feed line, it will be changed to PVC. The reason behind this is to prevent a siphon from happening!

Nice keeping the ato In-stand... I ran out of real estate and have mine outside.

?? For you. I'm just getting around to setting up my apex and want to connect to my Vario return. Have you figured out which cable we need? I was thinking the Kessil cable might be the one since I don't see another that would do it.

Correct, the kessil cable should get the job done. You'll need an open VDM port on the apex. I'm not controlling my pump through the apex, may get the cable later and switch to the apex vs the varios controller. I do have the pump plugged into my apex and alerts setup. Also if my return pump shuts off my skimmer wont startup until 10 minutes is passed! I love the apex, you're going to have a lot of fun with it!

The controller only has 1 input, the gyre cable is split for 2 pumps. Now you could use that gyre cable to run 2 pumps on the same VDM. Either way should work, I may grab the kessil cable in the next few weeks to try out.

If you are going to use a break out box, I robbed my varios float switch holder since I didn't use it on the pump. I actually bought another float switch holder from the coral he site for another float switch in my sump. Hopefully I can get all 3 floats setup soon.

Thanks for links and info. I saw somewhere in my searching that BRS had been recommending the Kessil cable but it wasn't working for people and they wound up with the split cable. Just do some reading before you order.

Been a little while since I last updated the build process. I battled a pretty bad algae outbreak, water changes, clean filter socks and manually getting into the tank and scrubbing the rocks seems to have solved the problem. I wish I had taken some pictures, one of my rock structures was completely covered in algae. After getting in the tank with a good brush a couple of times I am hoping I am over that battle. I was rotating new filter socks every 2 days, this has now moved to every third day. I run one mesh and one felt, the felt sock is in the first chamber catching most of the stuff and doing all of the major work.

The Nyos skimmer is pulling great skimmate, I have had to adjust the skimmer a few times and it is a pretty painless process. This skimmer is still dead silent!

I did chop up my plumbing, I do have parts in to redo the plumbing and that will be done at a later date when I have the time. I was running my reactor off of a MJ1200 and no matter what I couldn't get the MJ1200 to run silent. It was literally the loudest part on the entire system, to remedy this I made do with the parts I had on hand and Tee'd off the return. I realized I didn't need all of that plumbing, I do plan to add 2 manifold ports, maybe 3 but in a different configuration that doesn't take up the space in the back of the stand.

I have a few plans that will take place sometime next year, being a hardware junkie I can't seem to stick with equipment very long before I want to try something else!

I just pulled my Vertex reactor off of my manifold in the 525xL because a bag of carbon does the same thing for my setup. I realized I have this big manifold under my tank now and I literally have nothing running off of it! Funny how when we plan for all the things that we might need, it never ends up working out quite that way! :D Im still fighting some algae issues, but the tank is young - it'll work itself out eventually, especially with some focused maintenance. Looks like yours is about in the same place. These tanks should be gems in the months to come :)
