Two of my trachys just randomly started to die earlier this week. I put a couple frag racks above them which partially shaded them and the next day I found one that was half melted with just skeleton left and the other had a bunch of white spots all over it. The white spots look similar to when a mushroom is stressed and releases the white stringy stuff.
I didn’t really think it was from being shaded for a day, but didn’t know what else would have caused it since they’ve been doing great in my system for over two months. There’s a another trachy that was right in between the two that’s still doing great.
Today I just noticed that a couple of my button scolys also have the white stringy stuff coming out from on top and around their base on the skeleton. I attached a couple pictures of the button scoly and trachy to show the white marks. I dipped the trachy in an iodine dip a couple days ago, but haven’t noticed any difference. If anything it just looks worked than it did before.
Alk - 9.2
Calcium - 450
Mg - 1500
Nitrate 15
Phosphate - 0.2
My phosphates used to be a lot higher like around 0.4-0.6 and I would control it with small amounts of phosphate reducing liquid, but I added a new skimmer last week and now it’s staying consistent between 0.1-0.2. All of the coral were doing great over the past few months while the phosphates were a lot higher so I don’t think it’s the phosphates that are causing it.
If anyone has any idea please let me know. Thanks!
