Update: water change day. Still doing 10% water changes, ten gallons each time. Still running GFO now for the last three weeks to hopefully reduce any silica. With the upgrade to the RO/DI unit by adding another mix bed DI cartridge and running GFO, the diatom issue is slowly getting better.
 
Prepping for water change. The glow that greets me when I come down here.....

Question for you... As your Monti Cap continues to grow new layers upward and shades the lower ones, how do you plan on dealing with that? Just let it go and see what happens? Is it worth the effort to try and selectively remove newly forming pieces to prevent continued upward growth?
