In the case of lighting a large LPS frag tank, has anyone played with the idea of mounting larger spread lights such as Orphek Atlantiks, AP9X, or the newly released A500X well above standard heights? With these lights having rather larger spreads as is, I'm curious if anyone has tested par spread on shallow frag tanks with these monster units. Looking to start up an 8'x3-4ish' system.

I think it is a great idea. I think LEDs are more cost effective on large shallow tanks. Raise them high, run them at 100% and use fewer units.
