How would this work?

I got a 18w uv that i was originally going to put on the 90 i am starting. but till then, i want to try it on my 55gal which is currently setup.

Basically, my 55gal does NOT have a sump, since this is my first tank i didnt know much about sump at that point and cant add one now due to stand space.

How would i connect a uv sterilizer directly from my tank?
How would the water go from my tank into the sterlizer (which ill put next to or under the stand) and back into the tank? I was thinkign about getting some plastic tubing, can this work?

Use a feed pump in the display and just plumb the sterilizer to it with the drain off the other side feeding back into the display.... Curious why the use of a uv thou???

Why the UV? sell it and get yourself a HOB skimmer.

i actually have a octopus bh100s hob skimmer. works great.
Recently iv been having some hair algae issue. I cut the light down and feed once a week.
I try to do water changes weekly or biweekly. I wanted to transfer some of this rock to the 90 and was trying to get rid of the algae b4 transfer.
Since i will be tearing down the tank in a month, i just wanted to try the UV and see if it helps.

I was going to scrape the algae off and see if that helps.
Just something i wanted to try.

im a noob on this part, could you explain just a little more if it can be simplified lol.

uv units are "totally" dependent on the amount of flow pushed thru them, you will have to match the gph to have any effect, there is an inlet and an outlet, small pump in tank piped to inlet, outlet piped back to tank, secure the pipes so they can't move or you risk pumping your tank on the floor, it won't do much for HA, this is a nutrient issue.
