Has anyone put an encrusting monti on the glass? Will it grow with the glass or would part not get enough light to grow?

Will an encrusting monti plate? I think a rainbow plating monti would be awesome!
Yep just like people would have them grow on the back walls of their tanks...some are glass and some are plastic. Either way you could.
More than likely it will just spread over the entire back wall...but might look cool either way!

Black painted back walls are soo last year mine is rainbow. Wait.. Ohhh.... nevermind..

I have seen some encrusting montis branch (somewhat), but never plate. Besides, there are some pretty nice plating montis out there to choose from: supernatural, sunburst, flowerpetal, strawberry fields, etc.
It will attach and it will grow on to the glass. However, you will eventaully regret doing this. If you ever move you will have to dremel the monti then scrape the rest of the monti off the glass. More work that it is worth. If you reall want the look of a monti coming off the glass, buy a magnet rock from gooch and put the monti on that.

I wont buy one I just make my own....
I made this last month for myself but it came out to big for my tank and trade it for a chalice.

Then I would make a small on and put the monti on that. You will be happier in the long run. I am dreading removing my monti from my overflow when I move ind a year or two.
I would not put a monti on the glass. I did on my 75 that I broke down and it blocked the light to every\thing under it.

That's why I was thinking of an encrusting monti
An encrusting monti will be absolutely impossible to remove even a little bit of the coral if you change tanks or move.

Well there goes that idea. Guess I just need to keep scraping the back glass so I have that super clean look.
Do you mean scraping coralline or nuisance algaes? I have a vinyl background on my tanks and the vinyl hides any sign of algae growth except for coralline.

Me personally I don't like the back all coralined up. To me it seems like I was to lazy to scrape that one pane of glass. I made it to where not a single rock touches the glass at all and that is hard with a 46 gallon bow that is only 12" wide on the ends.
