Interesting thread, I picked up a 50W for my 20G Long 13" deep, and no one has put up PAR readings for these lights, does anyone have such PAR readings ? Or is everyone doing trial and error approach ...

I'm about to get the 30w for my 5g. I was hoping to find PAR info on these but haven't found anything so far. I guess it will be trial and error. :-)

How deep is your tank ? seems like a lot of PAR rating for a 30W led light.

Thanks for this! I plan to use the 30w on a 5g. Hopefully it's not too powerful. The tank is 16"L x 11"H x 6.5"D. It's an AIO so 8.5"D with the built in sump.

Do/Did you like the light? This is my first tank. Currently it's fish only but I hope to add some beginner coral once the tank stabilizes and this looks like a light that can handle a pico and beginner coral.

Did not use it much, i had an anenome in a fish only tank so i needed light for it, since the lights on that tank only put out about 20 par. The Nicrew 30 has alot of power but is adjustable if you use their $14 timer and it controls both channels so you can adjust accordingly to reduce if necessary and adjust whites and blues.
It does have small spead though, should be perfect area for any pico type tanks.
My reef tank is a 125, on it i have two nicrew 100watts and a viparspectra. The nicrews have better color, but need an additional timer or controller, the little nicrew timer will not work with anything bigger than 30watt.

Thanks so much!! I'm glad to read your positive experience with them. I'm going to order one. I did read somewhere about the controller only be compatible with the 30w so thanks for confirming that. Supposedly they're designing one for their more powerful lights which is good because that was the biggest complaint I saw about them. Given the price I'm not expecting much but the fact you're still using them is good enough for me. :-)

If anyone is looking to connect this bad boy to apex for cheap -

I successfully connected to apex using one of these 4 pole 3.5mm to speaker wire. Basically cut the end of an ethernet cable and use the wires from pins 3-ground, 4-Left or White and 8-Right or Blue. ONLY 3 WIRES. The ethernet cable's (cat5) wires are color coded so you can easily see which wire is which pin. The adapter is also clearly marked Left, Right, Ground, and 24v. YOU DO NOT NEED THE 24V.

Various cables on bulk reef etc will not work because they are 3pole stereo plugs.

Here is a picture of the adapter -

Just added two 100 Watt hyperreefs today on my flex 32, looks so sexy and the lights are very strong and potent. Everything looks a lot better. Idk how you can go wrong at $133 each esp wit the brackets

Just bought the 50w version, should have it today. Anyone try the A series controller? I know it calls for the X series, but the 0-10v is basic on both controllers as they only control legacy lights. Did they ever come out with a controller for the 50w and higher lights?

I know this thread is old but did you ever figure this out?

I'm wondering this right now because I'd like to individually control 2 separate lights -- 1x Nicrew HyperReef 50W + 1x Kessil A80. (Have the lights, wondering if the controller will work)

I've read that the Kessil Spectral Controller "A" will NOT work with the HyperReef.
Not sure why. (Both seem to be 2-channel 0-10v)

My only SPECULATION so far is:
-- Nicrew 2 channels are white and blue
-- Maybe the 2 channels on Kessil Controller "A" mimics the knobs on the Kessil lights which are intensity and color (some kind of color balance), not white and blue ??? (Still seems like it would do SOMETHING?)

Hey guys I have a quick question. Starting my first reef tank and I’m looking at the mess that is reef lights and have landed on the Nicrew. It’s a 37 gallon tank that is 30” long and 22” tall. My question is what is going to be the best wattage to go with. I was thinking just go with the 150w which is probably overkill but it could be turned down. With it having 3 lights in it I thought the spread would be the best. I would also have the option if I wanna to go with a bigger tank down the road it would be the biggest light. any suggestions would be super appreciated. This will most likely be more easy corals to begin with and grow into bigger better ones as my knowledge gets a little more.

I bought the hyper reef 30w light for my fluval spec 3. I mounted it to the wall instead of the tank because it is quite heavy and I didn’t want to risk breaking the tank if I knocked it. The desk moves up and down so I can control distance to the light.

i have a PAR meter but I don’t know how to take a measurement with it. I’m happy to take measurements if someone can help me use it.

i bought the Nicrew 2 channel timer but it hasn’t arrived yet.

So far I am happy with the light

Hey,hi everyone, I'm new here. couple of weeks ago i bought the 100W hyperreef version, no complaints at all, still cycling (started on Saturday) approx 13 gal tank, planning to put only SPS corals inside the tank once ready. I'll start putting monti, Stylo and Seriatopora, if I'll manage to keep doing the right things (no fish probably or maybe a small Goby) maybe daring to put an acro... However, considering my tank is almost a cube 14"*16"*16h what setting should I set? 100% blue 60% white would be enough?

Just to confirm, the Kessil cable with an Apex VDM should work in controlling these right?
Did this cable work? Have heard people say it does and doesnt. Still in love with the lights. Great value if you already have the apex!
