Is my small orange clownfish acting normal? Today I noticed that he’s been keeping his fins clamped, breathing a bit faster than normal and acting twitchy. He also didn’t eat as much this morning and he wasn’t as excited to eat like he usually is. One of my cats did mess with my tank this morning, I didn’t see my cat messing with my tank but I did find evidence, so I’m wondering if my cat just really stressed out my clownfish. I have attached a video below of him below.

The behavior seems to be showing signs of stress. The next step is to figure out why. If it is from the interaction between the fish pair (and there is no severe body damage) then it is normal. However, stress can also be caused by water parameters and other environmental factors so it is worth doing a review of your water and continuing to observe the tank. Good luck!

It looks like some stress behavior for sure. A little at a time isn’t the end of the world. It’s possible the cat may have stressed him a bit, so give it some time and see if the behavior settles on its own. Other options include lowering your lights or including more hiding places in your tank

I just tested my water and ammonia is at 0ppm, nitrite is 0ppm and nitrate is between 5 and 10ppm. My clownfish seems to be doing better today, he ate more today than he did yesterday and he seemed more interested in eating. He’s also not as twitchy today.

My clownfish is doing better today. He ate a bit more than he did yesterday and he seemed more interested in eating. He’s also not as twitchy today and his breathing seems normal now. I have enough hiding places in my tank, my clownfish just chooses to stay out in the open.

Now my other clownfish isn’t acting like normal and my small clownfish is not acting normal again. Today I noticed that both of them have what looks like some small white particles that are the size of grains of salt on them. I’m not sure if it’s an early stage of brooklynella or if it’s Ich or velvet. Today I put in a dose of Kordon Ich Attck which is reef safe since I have snails, hermit crabs and corals. Supposedly it also treats for the velvet and brooklynella parasites. On Thursday I am receiving a shipment of 2 fish and a shrimp that I have waited a month for from Dr. Reefs and I don’t want the fish to catch whatever my clownfish have. I can’t set up a quarantine tank so I don’t know what to do.
