I’m searching for the spectrum graph chart for Phoenix metal halide bulbs . The 250 watt double end 14000 k bulbs exactly. I can’t find it anywhere. Does anybody know where it is ? Thx

Thx . That graph looks like a 20000K spectrum because of the peak @450 nm . But now I’m running ushio bulbs @14000K , honestly I like that Phoenix spectrum better .

The Phoenix bulb is notoriously blue for its 14,000k rating. The spectral characteristics are remarkably similar to the Radium bulb and the Hamilton 20,000k

Believe the 2 Phoenix are in that circle. Chart I found awhile ago..
To rudely quote myself..
And this..hard to see but only 2 have a "real" CCT
and only one of them is right.. ;)
Giesemann "13000" is more like 9000K
XM 15000 is close enough to 15000K. Assume the XM line is dead..
THINK this is correct..

Note CCT = "0"

I agree that the K ratings are mostly stupid.

14k Phoenix looks more like other 14k bulbs than 20k bulbs. 20k Radium is more like a 14k than a 20k. The new hamilton 20k is more like a 14k too and was designed to mimic the 20k Radium without needing a HQI ballast.

Phoenix 14k on m80 is mostly crisp white with really good pop. No windex.

The Phoenix 14k has less output and is a bit windex'y on a regular 250w ballast and not m80. Superlumens or "HQI" on an electronic ballast is somewhere in the middle.

Yesterday my Phoenix 14000k bulbs came and they are very blue. A little overly blue for 14k bulbs . They are indeed more pretty than ushio 14k bulbs. Ushio 14 k is pure white, and to my eyes even a little yellow. Everything was brown . But I will have to admit ushio bulbs are very powerful. I don’t have a PAR meter but they could bleach any montipora in a couple of days even on the gravel of my 25-26” tall aquarium. Still all metal halide bulbs are powerful. I switched because of color . I have 14k ushio , 20k no name eBay , and now Phoenix 14k to choose from. Phoenix 14 k is almost as blue as 20000k eBay ( top dog sellers ) . And not even close to the ushio 14k white . IMO
Also I’m thinking of switching the t5 bulbs to true actinic vs the present blue plus. ??? Anybody running that combo or stay with the blue plus ? Thx

I'm running 2 Ushio 14K right now with 4 ATI Blue Plus bulbs and they are doing great!
Yes, Ushio 14K is a stronger "white" bulb and we need to adapt the organisms carefully, doing it in a longer period of time to avoid any harm. I think Hamilton bulbs are much easier to deal with.
I love all the bulbs! The Hamilton 20K is an amazing bulb and very easy to adapt the corals to.
I prefer Blue Plus over True Actinic with halides.

IF you can get your hands on the Ushio 20k bulbs it has a purplish actinic hue (compared to the blue of the phoenix and radiums) that I prefer over the phoenix and back to back comparison corals pop slightly more as well. BRS has like 3 250w de left and premium aquatics still have them. I run them in 150w de for over a decade and have yet to find a bulb I like better (tried most). The 150w version is harder to come by than any other variant so I hoard a stash and buy a set anywhere I see them.

When I replaced a Ushio with Phoenix I was taking it back out before it was even cooled down.

I've had both Ushio bulbs you mention. The Phoenix washed out the colors and just looked flat to me. One of my least favorite bulbs, and I've tried many.

I just dug an Aquamedic Ocean light out of storage and put it over my 50 lagoon and installed a Phoenix bulb. I would call it white with almost no blue to my eyes. I do have it mounted between an Aquaticlife hybrid fixture with 3 blue plus and an actinic bulb and with everything on I really like the color. I'm thinking of trying the 20k Ushio since I don't really want to run the T5's for more than a few hours a day and would like more blue from just the halide bulb.

Loved the phoenix bulbs, and they were the last MH bulbs I ran on my tanks before moving on. Radiums were a close second, but the phoenix had a crisp look that was classic MH.

Oh yeah, if you look at that spectrum note the lack of peak violet. BRS losers everybody seems to worship would conclude they can't grow coral. / sarcasm

Did you all use the spec ballasts for the 14k Phoenix bulb? On real M80, I find these to be a wonderful bulb. Under driven, either with electronic Super Lumens or fake HQI, or with other ballasts shifts the color. Probably a good idea to list the ballast used in the post.

I’m useing 250 watt Phoenix bulbs with electronic ballasts, on 250 setting . Very blue color , about the same as 20000k . I did try superlumans setting , I can’t see a shift to white at all but it is indeed much more bright.
I’m running currently at normal setting, without the t5s on while the halides are running. The blue plus t5s are dusk and dawn only.
I feel the aquarium lights are over powered. So I’m running on low so to speak . Time will tell how this does . Thx
