Just bought a new phosphate test to find that out. Will test over weekend. My old test (API) was not precise enough to say anything other than there was some amount of phosphate that barely registered. I got a Salifert kit that should give me a better idea.

I've really wanted an urchin for a while. I think I'll have to make one my next livestock purchase. I was sad there were none at ReefAPalooza but I consoled myself with a fighting conch.

Thanks for the compliment on the finger leather. After it got over its floppy stage during the bacteria bloom, it just took off. I'm also excited that the original zoas have started to spread, and the new zoas already have like three new polyps starting. So, except for the algae, things are good in Tanagra (my name for the tank; the clownfish are Darmok and Jalad).

Cheers,

Arrgh. Lost my first fish today, my Rainford's goby Shaka. Don't know why and I'll have no time to test the tank until tomorrow.

Algae has improved but is still bad. At least all the Aiptasia is gone. I'm a little down and frustrated with the tank. Hope I can get over it.

Cheers,

Ah, so sorry about your fish man. Hope you can figure out a cause!

Have you tried GFO for the algae? Getting my phosphates way down was what made a huge difference for me.

I am running GFO. It seemed to help some. I may need a bigger CUC. I took my water in for testing at a local reef store. Waiting for results.

In better news, both my zoa colonies and my clove polyps are spreading.

Phosphates high (0.34), magnesium low (1220 ppm). All the other values were good. I'm going to change out my GFO and add more of it. I'll start supplementing Mg a bit too.

Been a while since I've been on R2R.

Tank has mostly been doing well. I upgraded the pump. With the GFO and some aggressive water changes, my phosphates dropped a lot (down to 0.07 from 0.34). There is a lot less algae now, but still more than I'd like.

Two issues: The new pump creates a lot of microbubbles. How do I fix that?
A lot of my green zoas closed up about three weeks ago. Some have reopened but lots of them are still closed. They don't seem to be dying off; they are just closed. They seem to have closed up when I accidentally dumped clean water from a water changed right on top of them. Did they get shocked by the new water? Any other ideas?

Tank parameters: sal 1.025, phos 0.07, nitrates 0.2, calc 400, alk 8.

Thanks!

Hey,
It's been a while since I've been on the site. My little nano is still kicking. Still got some bubble algae and aiptasia but I'm continuing to work on that. My blue Ricordea aren't doing well. I put a phosphate reducer in the tank and they haven't been the same since, despite multiple water changes. I'm going to go hunting for some advice on them.

I'll be closing in on two years of reefing soon. Now that we have a house, I'm planning on adding a bigger tank in the next year or so.

See everyone around the forums!

Cheers,

So, it recently popped up in my FB memories I've had this tank for 5 years now. Last year at this time I had finally won my year long battle with dinos. Tank is mostly doing well now, although I just mysteriously lost the conch I bought last June. Otherwise, I'm pretty pleased with this tank. I need to weed out the clove polyps a little.
