pressure guage, the 5-stage provides one but I think it is AFTER the RO membrane so you can see if the RO needs to be replaced over time. So you are suggesting putting another before the RO membrane to ensure you don't go too high PSI into the membrane?
Hmm.., after the RO membrane would make no sense, that side of the system is as little to no pressure, unless you so-choose to pressurize it (and it will engage the automatic water shutoff valve at 40PSI, anyways!)

If I had to make an educated guess, I’d say this system has the pressure gauge right before The RO membrane, telling you when your carbon or sediment filters are clogging up!

Does that make sense? I think I saw one of the videos from BRS or somewhere else suggest same. OR will using the autoflush take care of this?
I don’t specifically use the auto flush kit, and haven’t referenced it in a few years to refresh my memory… but, I seem to recall that it addresses startup and stop flushing for you! — though I will say that I regularly forget to do this, and I’ve never seen aTDS spike nearly that wild; maybe 10ppm TDS for the first few seconds before TDS creeps down!

I’ve been running my Smart Buddie for years and it’s been amazing. I even use it on a 150gpd BRS RO unit wit no issues. The older Smart Buddie said it can’t be run like that but they have a new version that can. Mine has had no issue with the 150gpd setup and has been in operation for at least 2 years that way

You don’t need an auto flush kit at all, membranes can be manually flushed, too
Or they can be not flushed at all. I get 2-3 years out of a membrane, and have never backflushed them (when I started doing this, backflushing wasn't a thing and I kept going with that). It is a $40 consumable item, and as such possibly not worth complicating life to eke another couple months out of.

Given how hard it sometimes seems to be for novices to understand even the basic operation of a minimalistic RO system, I think reducing complexity is valuable here.

Check out the last post of this thread... https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/help-with-rodi-configuration.1137147/

That's a lot of TDS creep.
